"How will he react?" you wonder, as you hurry
towards the meeting. The sun is shining brightly as you step through the park gates, but in your mind's eye all you
can see is the look of shattered trust on his face when you left him. Will he ever trust you again? You feel dejected
at the thought that he feels that you have let him down.
Oh well, you would find out soon enough whether
his feelings towards you have changed. Subconsciously, your steps slow, as if to delay the moment as long as possible.
This is the first time you have been apart in more than five years. You stand for a while to watch the children
playing, and shake your head to clear the feeling of unreality. Why, it only seems like yesterday since you played there
yourself.
You quicken your steps as you realise
you have been dawdling; it wouldn't do to be late. You had hurt him enough already when you parted. You can
still see the gleam of his unshed tears. You feel you must do everything in your power to restore his trust in you.
Can you make him see that the parting was for the best in the long run?
And there is the building. You square
your shoulders and brace yourself.
No more time to think. The time is almost
upon you. You scan the crowd, and there he is, searching anxiously over the heads of the people for you, and with a
feeling of relief so strong you almost stagger, you see his eyes light up as he sees you.
"Mummy," he shouts, "It was lovely.
Can I come again tomorrow?"
And you rush towards him to pick up your son
at the end of his first day in Primary School.
