THE COSMIC OWL

I Bought It On Impulse

How do you like this new lamp that I bought?
Costs 2 cents an evening to run.
I like the nice golden glow it provides,
Like a moon or a very weak sun.

I don't need a nightlight, I know very well,
'Cos the kids have left home to run free,
But it was a great bargain, at one-third the price,
And I bought it on impulse you see.

These curtains are lovely, though four inches short,
But the gap, well, that won't bother me,
And Spotlight was giving big discounts this week,
So I bought them on impulse, you see.

This skirt that I'm wearing I got from Millers.
It goes with this jumper just right,
It doesn't quite blend with the rest of me stuff,
'Cos I bought it on impulse last night.

My office is crowded with all sorts of junk,
Five mouse pads, twelve pens, all debris,
Countless books, umpteen folders, and files by the score,
'Cos I bought them on impulse, you see.

This poem condemns me as someone who's weak,
Who'll buy everything that I see,
But please don't deride me for spilling my beans,
'Cos I wrote it on impulse, you see!
