The Envy used the lowest
resolution on her grapple beams to avoid crushing the man in the space suit adrift in space, orbiting the small lump of rock
in a quiet part of the asteroid belt. It was over two days travel to its nearest
neighbour.
"How the hell did he
get out here? Where's his ship?" Benson wondered as he waited by the airlock
for the man to approach.
"Could he be a miner,
blasted out of his base?" asked Snodgrass, Envy's navigator.
"We'll soon know," grunted
Benson, opening the airlock.
He knew better however,
when their visitor's helmet was removed, revealing wild eyes in a youthful face, incongruously topped by snow white hair.
The broken man gibbered
frantically all the way back to Titan base.
"Wrong asteroid - the
bastards dumped me on the wrong bloody asteroid! Wrong bloody asteroid! "
