THE COSMIC OWL

Change - No Change

I went into the supermarket to buy some bread and cheese,

Some milk and spuds and cooking oil, cabbages and peas.

Twenty dollars and 90 cents they charged me just for these,

The checkout girl laughed when I said, 'Can I have my change please?'

No change.

Each time there's an election on, they force us all to vote,

Elect some fools to Government, it really gets my goat.

'The other lot are scoundrels' is a common polling quote,

But when they're in they're all the same, they have us by the throat.

No change.

At night upon the TV screen, a movie of some sort,

A comedy or fantasy, some light escape I thought

Would cheer me up, but all I found was yet more bloody sport.

It's been the same since my first television set was bought.

No change.

You have to have a bank account, it's gone beyond a joke.

The interest rates they're charging us are going to send us broke.

The mortgage rates have gone beyond the reach of simple folk,

I hope that in the end our hard earned money makes them choke!

No change.

There was a time of life when I could climb upon this table

I clambered up a tree with ease, Human Fly, that was my label.

But now to carry out these feats I fear I am unable,

My skills are gone into the realms of fantasy and fable.

Change!
