Warning: What follows is entirely out of character. Still, someone had to do it.
As much as I hate to say it, I haven't really thought about this place in months. This morning, however, something -- my attention span is much to short for me to remember what it actually was -- reminded me of it, so for the first time in a while I dropped by. Unfortunately, the Spanish company that now owns tripod (I know, I was surprised too) discontinued the practice of giving out stats, so I honestly have no idea as to how many people visit. Still, I was surprised by the number of comments in the guestbook. Frankly, I'm surprised that a show that's been off the air for so long can still get such a virulent reaction from some people.
To everyone who signed the guestbook, thanks. Even those who wrote that we need to get lives or that it's sacrilege to poke fun at a cartoon. (Especially those, actually. There has been any new content in well over a year, and there hasn't been so much as a "We're still alive" update in almost eight months. Making fun of a hobby from my junior year in high school isn't going to cause me a whole lot of mental anguish, people. Even if you mispell "fuck" repeatedly.)
Interestingly enough, however, the "fack you" posts have gone done. My theory is that all the charming fackers who used to frequent it are now three years older and are either more mature or have moved on to something else. (The humanist in me would hope for option number one, but I'm guessing two is more likely.)
Things have changed a good deal since GWS was founded. For one thing, all three of us are in college now. DGD is off studying insanely difficult courses, the mere names of which send my liberal arts oriented head into shock, and GS is off being GS. That much is constant. As for me, I'm no longer in Cleveland, so the Cleveland jokes are fewer, though I get into arguments with New Englanders over the correct generic term for carbonated beverages.
I still talk fairly regularly with GS, and from time to time with DGD, but this site doesn't really come up. What I'm trying to say, in my usual hackneyed manner, is that the door on GWS is just about closed. I've considered writing that often promised sequel to Wundam Ging, but the interest isn't really there, and I'm not sure it would fit with the old stuff. Most important, GWS was a group effort, and it isn't my place to be adding stuff on after the fact.
Also, owing to Hotmail's evil new policies, all of the e-mail addresses listed on the contact page have been deactivated. If you'd like to contact us, sign the guestbook, or drop me a line at caliban@undisclosedlocatiion.net. I'll see that it gets to GS and DGD as well.
Unlike the guestbook, the forum has withered and all but died. The archives are still around, though. I enjoyed going through some of the old threads. A lot of it is incomprehensible, but it was worth it. I'm considering locking things up and making the whole forum read only, but since I have no idea what ever became of most of the forum crew, it'll stay open for the moment.
Finally, a bit of self promotion. Although it's still a work in progress, I've gotten a new site, Undisclosed Location. Unfortunately, someone nabbed the .com first, but .net is still a respectable domain. (Okay, fine, so it isn't. My life is a lie.) I highly recommend you check it out if you liked my stuff here, although my perspective is a bit biased.
Well, that's about it. There's a lot of great stories behind this place, but I can't go on forever. DGD or GS might post something after this, they might not. This isn't really an epitaph, since it isn't my role to declare this site finished, but it's close enough. I figured that after eight months in limbo a bit of finality was in order. (Don't worry, everything will remain up as long as Tripod is still kicking. Who knows, I might even host it on my new site if need be.)
Much thanks to Andrew, Anni Beth, and the rest of the posters at the forum (except Keyne), and of course to GS and DGD. I had a lot of fun, and it's a little sad bringing things to a close, but there's a time for everything.
Take care, everybody.
Gundam_go_home [3:00 pm], [3-21-02]
We've got a new guestbook, so if anyone still visits this place they can sign it. (The providers of the old one stopped offering free guestbooks a few months ago and ours was deleted.) The link works only on the main page. All the other links go to the old one.
Hurry and sign before this provider tanks, too.
Gundam_go_home [9:30 pm], [1-1-02]
I've created a new site. I'd say more, but it's all over there. The explanation, I mean. A big update will come in a few days.
Until then, happy new year!
Gundam_go_home [2:40 pm], [12-15-01]
Small update, nothing real interesting. Take a look or something.
Gundam_go_home [10:20 pm], [11-11-01]
I was actually intending to write some new material for this site. But I couldn't think of anything, so I overhauled the characters section instead. It's the sort of thing no one gives a damn about, but I thought I'd announce it anyway. Now just about all the bios are in the new layout, which means most of our content is now in the new layout. I think that's a milestone.
Gundam_go_home [9:10 pm], [11-9-01]
Another download, this time the endless duel ROM.
Also, stalwart message board poster txxandrewxxt has sent me the "Funky Winkerbean" comic strip that featured Heero Yuy. For those of you who don't remember, a while back that comic strip's mindless creator decided to attempt surpassing Marmaduke in the sheer awfulness department. And if that was the goal, the cameo was a logical step.
Now go take a look at Andrew's site. You'll be there for a while, I bet.
Gundam_go_home [9:10 pm], [11-3-01]
Another download. I swear, "Piss off Spaceports Week" is the best idea I've ever had. Tommorrow I think I'll put up the Endless Duel rom.
Gundam_go_home [9:20 pm], [11-2-01]
More craptastic downloads for the masses. Yeah, that's right, there's two of them. Burn, Spaceports, burn.
Gundam_go_home [10:10 pm], [11-1-01]
Another great download for you guys as We Hate Spaceports Week continues. Enjoy. But remember, feedback is important. Otherwise I'll just put up whatever random crap happens to be on the harddrive.
Also, the banner was fixed up a bit. Hooray.
Gundam_go_home [12:30 am], [10-31-01]
It technically isn't Halloween anymore (which means if this were a horror movie I could relax, turn off all the lights, leave the window open, and go to bed) but I've got something for you. But first a bit of an explanation.
With the blessing of GS, I have dubbed this "We hate Spaceports week," dedicated to those wonderful people who mugged us with horrible, horrible ads as soon as we moved over. (Another reference to the late DAC.) We no longer use the account that once housed the DAC -- http://scorpius.spaceports.com/~dac/ -- but it seemed just canceling the account would be too anti-climactic.
So I've decided to upload all sorts of crap for you guys to download until they decide to shut it down. ROMs, MP3s, whatever. So take part in a good cause and get some good shit from Gamer X's Half-Ass Download Emporium. There's only one thing up now, but there will be more in the next few days. If there's something in particular you're looking for, just say the word. Let's see how much bandwidth can be leeched away before spaceports kills it.
In the name of science, of course.
Gundam_go_home [8:30 pm], [10-30-01]
Well, today I discovered that our entire multimedia section has been deleted by those overzealous pricks at Geocities, also known as the internet's premier slumlord. It's quality! This probably means that GS's "Don't click here" thing is gone too, but since I don't have that on my hardrive there isn't much I can do about it.
But I do have all four installments of GS's epic masterpiece "Gundam Wing: The Lost Episodes," which chronicle the adventures of a drunken Deathscythe. Quite frankly, it's one of my favorite features on the whole site, although one of the most underpreciated. (To the extent that anything on a site called "Gundam Wing SUX" can be underappreciated.)
As of now, all four episodes have been uploaded to this account. This means something resembling new content is now up! I've endured a lot at the hands of the tripod ftp server, but now we won't have to rely on geocities anymore. I was also planning to zip them to lessen the download time, but it turns out when you click on a link to a zip file on Tripod, it takes you to a page with a link that says "click here to dowload whateverthehellitscalled.zip," a file hosted by Tripod.
And just for good measure they make sure the link is always broken.
I love Tripod. I really, really do. So I'm not complaining Tripod people! I swear!
So head over to our multimedia section and take a look. Each episode runs for about 45 seconds and is about 500KB in size. And remember, use save target as. If you try to view directly it'll be all screwed up.
C'mon! What're ya waitin' for.
In other news, Gamer X seems to have staged a bloodless coup in our message board. His reign of terror has begun. I tried to get Phil to smite him for me, but it seems the cops took him away after he tried shooting his neighbor's cat for "blaspheming the name of Jesus."
For those of you unfamiliar with Gamer X, we used to set him on fire regularly back in our days at the DAC. Apparently he's still bitter about it. (More on Gamer X here.)
Figures.
Gundam_go_home [10:45 pm], [10-26-01]
Right now I'm downloading all sorts of pirated crap off of Morpheus. So I figured while I'm waiting I'd do something that I have done in a while. I bet you can guess what this is.
That's right, folks. Another non-update. I feel somewhat guilty bumping GS's update with my trash, but there's a time for everything. And this has "bullshit time" written all over it.
As usual, I don't have anything new to offer you guys. It's been that way for a while, in part because none of us really feel like making fun of Gundam Wing anymore. It gets kind of old. I do have one last project, though. (No, I don't count these rambling commentaries of mine actual material. Though believe it or not, some people seem to enjoy them.) I'm not sure when it'll get done, but from time to time I get back to it. What is it? The much demanded sequel to Wundam Ging. But be patient. I'm not as interested in this stuff as I used to be, so I don't work on it as often.
I have plans for a new site as well. Earlier I was thinking of reviving the DAC, but then I realized that video games and DBZ were retarded, and I was too damn lazy to make fun of anything else. But I will make something sooner or later. For the moment, I've got a good deal of content with really no place to put it -- more DBZ parodies, a mock walkthrough for Chrono Trigger, a few comics, reviews, that sort of thing. If there's enough interest, I might post stuff in our (slowly dying) forum. Not on the site itself, though. So go to the forum or drop me a line. I'm sort of curious what the response is. (I'm also curious if anyone still visits, since that damn top fifty thing broke a month ago.)
So what the hell. Also, someone e-mailed me about their Dougram site. Now, I'm not really sure what the hell a Dougram is exactly -- looked like an old rip-off of first Gundam, but I'm not really sure -- but what the hell. The internet really does need a few more indepth sites on obscure anime on one's ever heard of. Plus, the villain's name means "The Duck," and the mobile suits are called "blockheads," "bigfoots," and "tequila gunners." So go visit Dougram.com We can only hope there isn't a Dougram Wing lurking out there.
Also, some of my shit is up on MadefromGoats.com. It's the cash flow diagram.
So I guess there's a bit of content after all.
Gundam_sux [8:13pm], [9-11-01]
I'm going to break protocol a little bit here and be dead serious for a moment. As you know, this has been a long, terrible day that has affected a countless number of people. Terrorist attacks have destroyed the World Trade Center in New York City and a portion of the Pentagon in Washington D.C. using US planes loaded with passengers. Furthermore, another plane filled with civilians crashed just outside Pittsburgh, killing everyone inside. Since I know people still visit this site, I'm going to use it as a outlet on this horrible day: pleading with you to respectfully honor all those people that died as a result, and urging you to keep their friends and families in your prayers. In addition, be sure to acknowledge the rescue teams and volunteers that are working diligently throughout the night to save human lives. It may be a little strange to read these words on this site of all places, but today's events have affected us all. It's something that will stay with you for the rest of your life.
Gundam_go_home [10:40 pm], [9-4-01]
Another content-free update. (The next one will have some good stuff, though.) I've converted a few pages to the new layout. Wundam Ging, the manifesto, the links, and multimedia. Plus I added a link and posted some ROM shit in the forum, whicn I encourage you to take a look at. And if the UCers are getting worked up over DGD's action, just wait. I'll give them something to really get worked up about.
Unless that was just a shameless ploy to pique their interest and get more hits. I'm not sure myself. Which reminds me, the banner contest is still open. E-mail your entries to me.
Oh, and I think GS got knocked off by some random Portuguese. He knew too much.
Diegundamdie [2:14 pm], [8-26-01]
Ok, now I have a confession to make. A couple UC fans have being telling me to not make fun of First Gundam. I agree with them about not being anti to it. I'm actually enjoying it and 08th alot.
However, telling me to not do something doesn't work well. So, I decided to have a little fun with my photo programs and a poster of Saturday Night Fever. Disco-RX-78. Yes, this means that I'm unwittingly giving fuel to radical Wingers who despise First Gundam. Humor makes for strange bedfellows and I guess it's about time they got a chance to laugh at UC.
I know that there are only two possible reactions by the UC community for this act. Either A) They will drag me by my ankles into the middle of the street and shoot me, or B) Save themselves the trouble of dragging me and just shoot me on site.
Ah, well it's all in good humor.
Gundam_go_home [10:20 pm], [8-25-01]
After months of (noisy) inaction, I've found a new purpose on the site. Whaling away at flamers and calling it content.
But first a bit of news. "Funky Winkerbean," facing strong competition from "Marmaduke" for the title of worst comic strip ever created, decided to go for broke with a cameo appearance by none other than Heero Yuy. After all the touching escapades of the main characters, this is truly a fitting denouement. Who could forgot Montini's pizzeria, the thriving local shop whose only customers are a fat guy with a comic book shop next door and a mailman? Or the time the hero's wife got raped? Or critically injured when the post office blew up? Poor Lisa even had a bought with breast cancer, until the strip's visionary creator got tired off it and suddenly made it go away. Then there's Funky's bout with alchohism and the guy who drank himself into a stupor every night at a pizza shop. Yes, "Funky Winkerbean" is truly amazing. My life will never be the same. Tomorrow we deal with "Crankshaft," and how the old bus driver summons Cleveland Indian's pitcher "Smokey" Williams to find him a crack house and save his grandson from weed. (Using the tragic story of Bongo Brown, who went crazy and shot up a bathroom. THAT'S WHAT POT DOES TO YOU! SAY NO TO DRUGS! OR SMOKEY WILL FEED YOU TO THE FISHES! THE GODDAMN FISHES, YOU HEAR?)
But now for the update. If you wish to see me try and pass myself off as an intellectual, head on over to the Nether Regions.
This will probably be the last update from me for a while, since School starts in a few days and I need to beat Chrono Trigger. Oh yeah, and something about summer reading as well. But mainly Chrono Trigger. LavOs!!!11 I gEt cHoO!!!11
I guess it's just as well, since if I make another one of these never ending updates GS will change the password and lock me out.
Gundam_go_home [10:04 pm], [8-22-01]
Today I have a substantive update, which goes against all of my scruples. Chances are you've probably already noticed. There is now a new layout, and one that is marginally less shitty at that. Now I know some wiseass is going to point out that it's exactly the same, except I moved the navigation bar from the right side to the left side and changed the banner, but that's not true! I also made the links turn red when you hover. It was a grueling fifteen minutes.
Things are somewhat sleeker looking now, and the html has been cleaned up considerably. The page should load a bit quicker now. I also created a page for the forum and revised the "Interactive" section a bit. DGD's quiz now has the glorious spot on the side bar it deserves. Over the next few days I'll be putting the rest of the pages into this new layout, something I never did get around to with the old one. (Partly because it was just too God-awful for it to be worth it.)
There's another announcement as well. As of now, we are having a banner contest. Use your L33T pHotOShoP sKilLs!!!1 and enter in the contest. We'll plug you or something. We aren't looking for anything specific -- just something that looks good with the layout. (Though Quatre getting stabbed would be a definate plus.) Good luck. But be forewarned, DGD already has a kickass entry in the works, and Gamer X plans on using his copy of paintbrush to create something truly beautiful. Send all entries to one of us (use the handy envelope icon thing) or just post it in the forum.
Happy hunting. Reviews of Mobile Suit Gundam and 08th MS Team are on the way as well. So keep your eyes peeled.
(I'd better stick in another paragraph to bump GS's update down further.)
Gundam_sux [1:08am], [8-18-01]
Boy, kcaliban really enjoys making long posts that amount to nothing, doesn't he? Ah well, let me balance that with an actual update. It's been awhile since I've actually had access to a computer (crummy houseguests) and an even longer while since I've been out of substantial pain (crummy medical system). Anyway, 4 whole new pages of the Trowa comic is up!! (pause).....cough......did I mention they were new? Damn, tough crowd. (and yes, that time thing is correct- it's REALLY 1:08 in the morning. I need caffeine...bad.) Episode Zero Comic.
Gundam_go_home [10:04 pm], [8-15-01]
It's been a while since I've updated so I decided to change that. Not with actual content, mind you -- just with more senseless blather on things you don't care about, such as the recent demise of the Defenders Against Crap. It is no more. Go read our farewell message. DO IT.
Lest you worry, let me reassure you that Gundam Sux will keep going. For good times have come. Or maybe they've already come and gone; I'm not sure. In any case, we finally cracked the top 50 on that topsites list. We got as high as 28, which in my opinion is pretty friggin' hilarious. I think we even cause them to adopt a "no anti-sites" policy. Unless it was there before and I missed it. But since I'm the only one that cares about that thing I'll move on.
Because we've got even more proof that we've hit the big time. One site has cranked out a few half-ass imitations of DGD's comics, and another has ripped off almost all of our content. There's even an anti-site devoted to us. All of these sites are truly amazing, though not amazing enough for me to remember what they were called.
Finally, some poor, tobacco-stained wretch keeps posting in our guestbook and begging us to plug his site. He's also tried to rip off Phil. That worries me a bit. I hope Phil doesn't take it upon himself to show up on the bastard's doorstep. Although "those miserable heathens" at the ATF confiscated his shotgun, he's still got the "righteous baseball bat of JESUS." I haven't lost the URL to his site, but I'm too damn lazy to look it. Visit the other pages we link to instead. And visit pojo.com, since they seemed to have linked us.
But enough of that. I do have some plans for the future. (Other than kicking back and relaxing while DGD does all the work and GS gets screwed by the medical establishment.) I'm currently working on reviews of the two Gundam series currently running on the Cartoon Network, as well as a "translation" of the Duo manga and a (somewhat) new layout for the main page.
This pretty much concludes my update. Be sure to ask Flanker Pilot about all the pretty horses. And don't forget to confuse the guestbook and the forum. (Yes, this update is too long. I'll just link it from the main page. But not now. Now I take a break from this strenuous non-work.
Diegundamdie [7:09 pm], [8-4-01]
The Relena comic is done. Yeah, I know. Whoopty freakin doo and a lah dee frickin dah. It's in, you'd never guess this, the Episode Zero section. Somehow it now has its own special link on the table to the right. That's cause for even more of a celebration. Zippidy doo dah day!
Diegundamdie [12:53 pm], [8-2-01]
For all those who constantly tell us that this site is a waste of our time, congratulations. Your day of waiting has finally arrived. Yep that's right. We at Gundam Sux have decided to give you what you've been asking for and wanting ever since this place was launched. You now have your answer. Why Gundam Wing Sux. Perhaps this isn't exactly what you had in mind but here it is anyways. This contains the foundations for why this site is here in the first place. You want a non-humor explanation for why Gundam Wing Sux, then here it is.
Diegundamdie [11:27 pm], [7-30-01]
Well, after finishing the Heero comic I didn't know which one to do next. Somehow the Relena one floated to the top like a dead fish. For your viewing pleasure, we now present you with the Relena Episode Zero Comic. The Princess is in for a little bit of trouble in her new school.
Diegundamdie [10:09am], [7-12-01]
Ok, it's finished. The Heero Episode One Comic should be completely up by now. I think I'm going to write an epilogue for it but that won't be up for at least a couple of days because I'm leaving town. It's college registration time and I get to go wait in long lines.
Diegundamdie [10:13am], [7-9-01]
Even I'm surprised that I wrote something funny. Well, at least relatively funny. Anyways I threw up some more pages. The whole thing is practically done so I should be able to post it all in about two days.Episode Zero Comic.
Gundam_sux [4:23pm], [7-8-01]
Imagine my surprise when I saw that Diegundamdie actually wrote something funny. In typical American fashion, let me steal his idea and add to the chaos by starting on the Trowa Barton Manga. Geez, it seems like an updating frenzy these days.Episode Zero Comic.
Diegundamdie [7:34pm], [7-7-01]
Blah, blah, blah. Couple more pages. You get the idea. If you have any comments or suggestions about the Heero Manga just e-mail me.Episode Zero Comic.
Diegundamdie [10:31pm], [7-6-01]
Well, by now my updates should be very predictable. Yes, I added more pages to the Manga thingamajig, nine in fact. It's about half-way done now. Episode Zero Comic.
Diegundamdie [10:35am], [7-5-01]
Why am I always in a rush? I added a couple more pages to the manga translation.Episode Zero Comic. There's something like 40 pages to the whole thing so this may take me a long to to complete.
[11:43 pm] Well, I just tacked on a few more pages. I'm up to 11 now. Whoopty doo!
Diegundamdie [4:30pm], [7-4-01]
I gotta make this short cuz I'm late for a Fourth of July party. Here's an update. Happy Fourth Everyone! Episode Zero Comic
Diegundamdie [8:26pm], [6-28-01]
Another update to post. It's a silly little Mad Libs game much like the Star Wars Novelist one at the DAC. It gives you a chance to write the aimless speeches that are everywhere in Gundam Wing. Right now there is just Heero's speech but soon I will add Treize, Dorothy, and Relena. Heero's Speech Game
Diegundamdie [6:04pm], [6-23-01]
Sorry to steal the limelight again but I have an important and joyous announcement. The site has been completely redone so that the Frontpage 2000 code that I foolishly used so long ago has been wiped away. It's just straight regular HTML and Javascript now. This should end all the problems faced by people. Another plus is that we no longer will have any problems with screen resolution. Perhaps now Anipike can post us. Awww who am I kidding? I don't think they like us. In honor of the site's birthday I have updated what was one of the first things on it. The Gundam Quiz, which was nothing more than a list of descriptions, has been magically transformed thanx to the wonders of Javascript. It's an actual quiz now with scores and results. I hope everyone enjoys it. The Real Gundam Quiz
Gundam_sux [4:15pm], [6-16-01]
Sorry, I was just sick of seeing diegundamdie's name in the limelight all this time. If you've actually taken the time to look around (and not flame the guestbook), it would eventually dawn upon you that this site is running on a skeleton crew. Kind of like a car that runs out of gas and is slowly rolling off a cliff via momentum. However, I came to a realization a day ago: people still come here, and we hit our one year anniversary on June 15, 2001. Yes, we've lasted this long which means that I've just won a couple bets! Time to see Epyon312k dress like a woman.... Anyway, if there ARE people that still come here (there's always the possibility that the counter is broken), please e-mail me and tell me what you would like to see up. There won't be as many updates as the DAC Alliance, but they will come. And probably sooner than you think. So here's to another year (unless Tripod burns down and takes us with it).
