Webb's Field![]() People park on the shoulder at the north end of the bridge, or at the boat ramp below the railroad bridge if it isn't too crowded. There is access to the river at the bridge.Much of this area is private property, but when the turbines are off one can wade to the shoals downstream of the island below the bridge, known as "Webb's Field". Some good fish are caught there. At high water one can float through the section, getting out below Broad Shoals. Top Of Page |
Broad Shoals![]() Below the pastures around Webb's Field the road comes back to the river at Broad Shoals. I do not recommend parking in this area, I would park at the picnic area and walk. When the turbines are off, there are 2 nice sets of shoals behind the woods between Broad Shoals and the Picnic Area. Look for the trails. Top Of Page |
Picnic Area![]() The National Forest Service operates a picnic area on TN 30 between US 411 and Reliance, the Hiwassee River Picnic Area. A $2 per vehicle daily parking fee is charged. For more info, Click Here. The river narrows to go between the mountains below the picnic area, and the whole stretch of river between there and 411 is totally unwadable on 2 turbines, and very difficult wading in many places on 1 turbine. Between maybe April and Memorial Day the water is usually off quite a bit to bring Hiwassee Lake up to summer pool level. I like to fish this area then. On into the summer, the water warms up down here and there is better fishing closer to the powerhouse. Top Of Page |
Taylor's Island![]() There is a fair sized parking area at Taylor's Island, with access to the river. The "fisherman's trail" runs from the Quinn Springs parking area downriver to the picnic area upstream, providing river access. I like to fish the runs below the heavy rapids behind the Island.
