The Silstar were the first rod that I used when I started to surfcast. During that time, Silstar produced lots of oriental style surf rods which were sloppy and designed for spinning reels. These usually 3- piece section rods were coupled to conventional guides making them really very cheap. Soon Silstar improved by introducing the Silstar Tournament Traverse X (3680370)and later the PowerSurf. The traverse were widely used by both beach and jetty anglers. The price is cheap and most important of all, it could handle big fish quite well due to it relatively stiff butt and firm tip. Some owners even went to the extent of cutting a few inches off the tip to make it even stiffer. Today, the newer generation of surf rod namely the T-surf and Tournament X remains its popularity. Guides on both rods are normal Hardloy type of unknown brand. The butt of all Tournament are supplied with a reel seat (brand also unknown) and hypalon grips at standard position while the T-surf have a butt section that is shrunk tube with rubber material. Both has got good action for both general casting and fishing. They are also a right choice for beginners and for those who are on a tight budget but at the same time wants a rod which could serve you well.
