Goju Ryu Katas
Home | Gekisai Dai-Ichi | Gekisai Dai-Ni | Saifa | Sanchin
For those that, somehow, stumbled upon this site unintentionally, KATAs are formalized simulated combat, incorporating specific stances, blocks, punches, and strikes. The kata are an integral part of the study of karate, strengthening the body while, making the student practice, the various strikes, punches, kicks, blocks, etc... , and conditioning the student's reflexes for sparring. I might also point out that practicing kata is a great deal more entertaining than practicing the same punch, over and over and over and .....

The intent of this site is not to teach the katas, but to remind the reader of the steps in each kata. Your sensei will teach you the katas as they are to be practiced in your dojo, but if you've just started learning your kata, you should, hopefully find this site useful as a reminder. This sight ought to be helpful for the first few katas anyway. It's incredibly annoying when you actaully manage to find, somewhere, the time to practice your katas, only to discover that you've forgotten what to do after that second block!

I haven't updated this site in 3 years. At the time that I created it, I was studying Okinawan GoJu Ryu under Sensei Mike Wise of Samurai Martial Sports in Houston, Texas.

For the past 3 years, I've been studying Tae Kwon Do as a member of the Tae Kwon Do Club at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. There I studied under my instructor Keith Bonnette. I may add the TKD forms to this site if I find the time.

I am just now starting with the Okinawan GoJu Ryu Karate club here at Purdue University. They use some different forms, so I'll try to add their forms as I learn them.
