Duck Lake

Then a few more steps and there is Duck Lake. We walked along above the west shore until we got to a place where we could see the whole lake -- it's huge! We walked down from the trail onto a promontory and found a nice rock where we sat down to take a break.

The guidebooks say that Duck Lake is very blue, and as we walked down to the rock I looked at the lake and it was a very dark blue. Do you remember the "midnight blue" crayon that came in the big box of 64 crayons? That was my favorite crayon color and that's what color Duck Lake looked right then. It was so spectacular that I had to stop and just look.

We sat on a rock in the sun and ate some cookies and a pear. We looked at the outlet of Duck Lake -- it looks like it drops off steeply beyond the outlet.

And we looked at the ridge between Pika and Duck lakes, and wished we had time to walk over there. But it was getting late -- almost 5 pm. The ridge and outlet would have to wait until another time.
