When Ramsay Street's Libby
Kennedy was involved in a horrific motorcycle accident a couple of weeks ago,
her main concern was fighting to survive. This week, as Libby appears to be on
the road to recovery, doctors deliver another devastating blow. According to Kym
Valentine, who plays Libby, the news comes out of the blue.
"It looks as though
Libby is on the mend but then she suddenly develops peritonitis," Kym reveals.
"She has a raging fever, and starts going in and out of consciousness.
"Eventually her fever drops and she starts to get better. But because of
the infection, it turns out that she might not be able to have children."
The implications for Libby
and Drew- who are in the process of planning their wedding- are immense.
"Libby is very very upset but she tries to be brace and not
overreact," Kym says. "Drew is very supportive, but Libby knows that
deep down he's very upset. She worries that she's going to deny him something he
has always wanted and that in a few years time, he'll start to resent her."
With storm clouds gathering
over the future of their relationship, Kym hopes that viewers will be immersed
in the storyline. "I'm not sure of where it all ends up, but I think the
journey is quite interesting," she says. "There are a lot of emotional
scenes, and I had to put a lot of effort into mapping it out. I'm keen to see
how they deal with it, and I hope viewers are, too."
