Libby's Blackest Day

For Neighbours’ favourite Libby Kennedy, the happiest time of her life could also end up being the most tragic. When Libby found out she was pregnant she couldn’t contain her joy- despite knowing that having a baby could kill her. She tries hard to forget about the complications of her pregnancy and dismisses the concerns of her family and friends

But according to Kym, it could end in disaster for Libby and Drew. “Libby is scared of the ramifications of being a mother, knowing that the doctors have told her it could kill her,” Kym says. After more than seven years in Ramsay Street and with contract negotiations looking, there’s every possibility the end of the season may see Kym leave the show which has made her a household name. And Libby’s death due to complications in her pregnancy may be the perfect plot for her exit.

“I’ve been on the show since I was 17,” Kym says. “I have grown up in front of millions of people and have never been out of work as an actor. I expect leaving the cast and crew and especially Jackie will be very hard. I imagine I will be crying my eyes out on the last day,” Kym says cryptically. “It’s really a double edged sword. I want to be inspired by work again, and to do that I may have to go out on a limb.”

But despite suggestions that her last day on the set is nearing, Kym says Libby’s pregnancy is giving her the perfect opportunity to stretch her acting skills. And it’s also stirring the hormones at home where she has just recently become engaged to her long time boyfriend Fabio Tolli, lead singer of the Melbourne band Recharge.

“We are both the cluckiest people,” she says. “And we talk about babies all the time at home. It’s been great playing someone who is pregnant because I have been picking everyone’s brains about what it is like. Fab and I have the same ideas about being parents and I’m looking forward to actually getting to hold a real baby on the show.” But for how long she will play a mother on the show is still uncertain. Kym says: “Whatever happens to Libby, I have this feeling that she and Drew are going to have a lovely little baby boy.”
