When Drew Kirk and Libby Kennedy learnt they
were in "the family way", they knew that it wouldn't be an easy
pregnancy. Despite the risk to Libby's health- doctors warned that she may
bleed to death during childbirth- the headstrong newspaper reporter has
soldiered on with the pregnancy.
That positive attitude is to be admired, but
her decision to keep working may be her downfall. This week, Libby's hot
pursuit of a story causes her stress levels to rise and ultimately ends in
a trip to the hospital. "She has been stalking a singer named Dame
Margaret Woolstead and trying for an interview," says Kym Valentine
who plays Libby. "She goes to her house and has an opportunity to
speak to her. That's when she gets pains in her stomach and realizes she's
bleeding and in danger of miscarrying."
Dame Margaret takes care of Libby until the
ambulance arrives, and Libby even manages to complete an interview.
"They get to the hospital, but Libby may not have made it in
time," Kym says. Drew is naturally concerned, and he's also
frustrated that she ignores medical advice to rest. "Drew is worried
about the baby, but he's angry at Libby," Kym says. "She's
putting her health and the health of the baby at risk by working. She's
been very selfish. If I were her, there's no way I'd be at work. I'd be at
home, resting and making sure I was doing everything I could to take care
of myself."
