Will the Flame of Love keep Burning? |
If ever there was a Ramsay Street character who deserved the title "unlucky in love", Libby Kennedy it is. One failed romance seemed to follow another and Libby inevitably found herself in the same position- nursing a broken heart. Enter Drew, a studly mechanic, armed with a killer smile and enough charisma to launch his own cologne. Libby should have been a goner, but actress Kym Valentine explains, bitter past experience held her back. "Libby has a bad track record," Kym says. "All the men she gets involved with tend to cheat on her so, naturally, she's very reluctant to get involved with Drew. She pushes him away." According to Dan Paris the actor behind the hunk with the spanner, Drew does all he can to win Libby over- then conceded defeat. "Libby tells Drew that she only wants to be his friend, and Drew does what any decent guy would do- he backs off," Dan explains. "Although he still has feelings for Libby, he accepts that she doesn't feel the same way and gives up. That's when he gets involved with Geri." As Neighbours' viewers will know, Drew and Geri haven't been exactly been smooth sailing since their unlikely romance began. "Drew is attracted to Geri, but his feelings for her don't run anywhere near as deep as they do for Libby," Dan reveals. "He doesn't want to go the wrong thing by Geri but, at the same time, in his heart of hearts he knows it's not right." Fortunately, Libby has finally come to this realization, too. "When Libby sees Drew and Geri together, she is jealous," Kym explains. "It makes her realize that she does have feelings for Drew and, if she doesn't act on them she will lose him altogether." And act on them she does! In episodes screening this week, Libby bites the bullet and lets Drew know exactly how she feels. "She kisses him," Kim reveals. "She takes the plunge. She still has doubts, but she decides this time to give him a go." Meanwhile, as Dan explains, the public are right behind the pairing. "Everywhere I go, people are always asking me when Drew and Libby are going to get together," he says. "I was actually a bit worried that they'd left it too long. The build up has been slow, but I think they're now ready to go for it." Kym is equally thrilled with the direction Libby is moving. "It's great to see her happy at long last," Kym says. "I think Drew has been really good for her, and hopefully, this relationship won't end up the same way her other ones do." Of course, in Ramsay Street, there are no guarantees. But Kym rates Libby's chances this time with Drew slightly higher than her past experiences. "Drew is loyal and caring," she says, adding with a laugh, "and he's got a six- pack!"
