For Neighbours Star Kym and boyfriend, Chris, everyday is Valentine's Day!

"We were meant for each other"

The first time Chris Ord glimpsed Kym Valentine, her face was plastered on the side of a bus. Although it was a fleeting moment, the advertisement for Neighbours left a lasting impression and would ultimately change both their lives. Their worlds collided again when friends introduced them. Chris immediately recognised Kym from the ad, and their whirlwind romance began.

Kym laughs as she recalls the first meeting, two and a half years ago. "I hadn't slept for over 24 hours. I was as sick as a dog, wearing tracky dacks and moccies, sitting in a friend’s house and stuffing my face with Maccas- it wasn't a good look!" she remembers. "And I hadn't washed my makeup off from the night before. I was at my most attractive."

 Chris has a slightly different version of the events. "She was attractive to me," he says, smiling. "It didn't take me long to realise we were meant for each other." It didn't take long for TV WEEK to realise it, either! When we invited Kym and Chris to spend a day at the De Bortoli winery in Victoria's Yarra Valley, it was immediately obvious that the pair are in love. It was hard to get Kym and Chris to look at out camera- they were too busy gazing into each other's eyes. "I was surprised, but the attraction was there from the beginning," Kym explains.

Their second meeting didn't go exactly to plan, either. In a twist of events that wouldn't be amiss in a Ramsay Street script, an unexpected visitor put an awkward spin on proceedings. "My friends set us up to have dinner together," Kym says. "They thought we would be alone, but my mum was staying with me at the time. So there I was, trying to impress this guy with my mum hanging around! Fortunately, Mum is great."

It was their third encounter that really cemented the relationship. As Chris explains, this meeting had Cupid's arrow written all over it. "Kym knew I was flying to Sydney for the weekend, so she arranged to come with me," he recalls. "I didn't know until I checked in. They told me I was sitting next to Kym Valentine. I thought it was a mistake, but I turned about and there she was!" Kym has remained by Chris' side ever since. They share a beautiful house, a love of antiques and both have successful carers- Kym as an actress and Chris as a writer.

So what is the secret to their obvious great relationship? "We communicate really well," Kym says. "And we are compatible. I'm attracted to his compassion and his unconditional support." Chris seems to be lost for superlatives about his feelings for Kym, but does say he's attracted to her sense of humour and sensitivity. Is a wedding in the pipeline? "We've talked about marriage," Kym says, grinning at Chris. "It's up to him!" Chris returns the grin. "Yes, we probably will marry, when the time comes."
