Here's Cheers? No Way!! |
It was suppose to be the perfect ending to a beautiful romance- but the fairytale turns into a nightmare when Libby tells Drew that she no longer loves him and the wedding is off! Drew and Libby had been planning their wedding for months, Everything was ready and the couple eagerly counted down the days to the moment when they would finally become husband and wife. But when Libby is critically injured in a motorbike accident on her way home from a camping trip with Steph, all their plans are put on hold. Drew keeps a bedside vigil and when Libby is finally out of danger the pair once more plan their wedding. Susan has everything in place and when Libby comes out of hospital she tells her daughter that the wedding will be one of the most anticipated in Ramsay street. But rather than sharing in her mother's excitement, Susan finds Libby withdrawn and depressed. And when Drew phones to come and see her, Libby tells him that she'd really much rather be alone. Neither Drew nor Susan can figure out what is making Libby so despondent, but what they are unaware of is that she's harbouring a secret which she dares not share with anyone. Before her discharge from hospital, Libby is told by the surgeon the motorbike accident has probably robbed her of the chance ever to have children. Libby is devastated and knowing how important a family is to Drew she decides the only way to ensure that her lover gets what he really wants from life is for her to make sure he marries someone else. Drew can't understand what is happening and as Libby becomes even more withdrawn and bitter towards him he becomes even more depressed. As Susan starts to put pressure on Libby about rescheduling the wedding, Libby finally snaps and tells her mother there won't be a wedding- ever. Susan is stunned and when she asks why, Libby lies and tells her she realises she doesn't really love Drew. But when she finally confronts Drew about her decision, Libby finds it difficult to keep the truth from him. Lying to him is the hardest thing she's ever had to do, but Libby is determined to free the man she loves so he can find happiness with someone else, even if it breaks her heart to do so. Keeping her emotions in tight control, Libby tells Drew she can't marry him- now or ever. She says she no longer loves him and doesn't want to see him anymore. Sick with grief Drew knows in his heart there is more to Libby's actions than she is willing to reveal and he's determined to find out what. Meanwhile, as Libby pushes him further away, it remains to be seen if Drew has the strength to fight her demons. From: TV Soap Australia's no. 1 August 2000 Writer: Keeli Cambourne |
