Two weeks before her wedding Libby decides to take a weekend off with Steph, camping out in the wild. Drew, being his usual self, worries about the danger of Libby riding on the back of Steph's motorbike. But Libby, like always, would not listen. She was sure it was going to be perfectly safe. This trip away was much more than what Libby and Steph had bargained for. Libby asks Steph to be her bridesmaid seeing her cousin would not be able to make it. An excited Steph agrees straight away on the idea, and they talk about it just before leaving for Erinsborough. On their way back home, Steph sets her eyes on a cave exhibition that she really wants to see. Libby, however, tries to tell her that they have to get back home, and the weather was getting worse. Steph, though, convinces her otherwise and they agreed to visit the garden. The weather did turn for the worse in the end. Libby suggests that they camp out for the night, but Steph tells her that she has to get home to work the next morning. She promises to drive safely in the wet weather. As the weather worsens, fate steps in. Brendon, driving dangerously in the wet weather, after getting angry for no particular reason, almost crashes into Libby and Steph's motorbike. The two girls fells right off the bike, as they swerved to miss the car. Steph begins to get up, but not far. It was clear that she had injured her legs. But, Libby was still unconscious. The passengers in a bus nearby, witnessed the whole accident, and called for help. Libby was still unconscious when the ambulance came, Steph was in shock though at the same time worried about the safety of her friend. Both families, the Kennedys and the Scullys were informed about the accident. And Drew of course. Gladly for the Scullys, Steph was safe, coming off with just a broken ankle. But as for Libby, she had to go into emergency surgery, with Karl, Susan and Drew outside not knowing the extent of her injuries. Meanwhile, Steph worries about Libby and blames herself for the accident, though everyone tells her it's not her fault. As Libby comes out of surgery, Karl finds out that she has ruptured a cords. He keeps this information from Drew and Susan, insisting that Libby will make a full recovery. Steph continues to blame herself for the accident and tells Libby, though she is in a coma, that she is so sorry. As the day/night progresses there is no change to Libby's condition. After a long wait, finally she wakes up, but just as Drew, Karl and Susan realizes this, she falls back into a coma, or asleep, as they say. The next morning, reality begins to sink in for Susan but Karl comforts her in the situation. Just before going back to the hospital, Karl goes to visit Steph, who is now back at home. He assures her that the accident was not her fault and she should stop blaming herself because no one is after all blaming her. Having spent the whole day and night at the hospital, Karl tells Drew to go home, have a shower and get a bite to eat. Drew insisted that he stays, not wanting to miss Libby when she wakes up. He is extremely worried about her condition and tells Karl that he had no idea that he could love someone so much, and wouldn't know what to do if Libby wasn't in his life. After his conversation with Karl, he decides he will go back home and have a shower. But Drew sure was back soon. Sitting beside Libby's bed, he watches her. She wakes up. Drew begins to talk to her about their wedding and his kilt. There was no reply from Libby, and the nurse assures him that she might be like that for a while. Drew continues to talk to her. *********************************************************** Reality sets in when Susan comes home finding a wedding present at the front door and a message on the answering machine saying Libby's wedding dress is ready and she will look great in it. She realizes that she has to postpone the wedding. At the hospital, Drew is asleep on the chair when Libby wakes up. Drew does wake up though and they talk for a short while. Libby asks if Drew is worried about her and he should go and get some rest, Drew tells her he loves her too much to leave. Out of no where, Libby develops a pain. She tells Drew that she's ok, but he still goes to call for the nurse. The nurse tells Drew to leave. She is doing a check up on Libby. Drew is worried as he leaves and it is obvious that Libby is in pain. Karl comes into the hospital seeing Drew sitting outside the intensive care room. Karl asks what's wrong and Drew tells him, he doesn't know. The Nurse comes to tell Karl that she has peritonitis. Karl assures Drew that she'll be ok. They can go see Libby now, but firstly Karl calls Susan telling her that Libby has gone worse and she's a sick girl. Susan rushes to the hospital immediately. At the hospital Susan comes around, both she and Karl goes into Libby's room where Drew waits. Drew tells Susan that one minute Libby was fine and the next not. Karl tells him that infections can come as quickly as it did. Susan is worried but Karl assures she that Libby will be fine. The nurse comes back in to tell them Libby's condition. Drew is beginning to loose his cool and starts to get a bit frustrated. Drew tells them that she can't just survive the accident, major operation and die from an infection. Karl says that Libby is not going to die, she's as strong as an ox, but Susan is not sure anymore. Libby wakes up with a towel over her forehead. She is having a very bad fever. Karl, Susan and Drew are all by her side. Drew can't take it anymore when she gets confused about Drew being overseas instead of Malcolm. Karl says it's normal but Drew leaves the room. He is at the hospital cafe, when Steph sees him. They had a chat, they can't believe that all this is real. Steph tells him that Brendon got charged for the accident. Here Drew realize that the accident may not have happened if it's not for Brendon. He goes to see Brendon. Drew visits Brendon's room casually, and starts a normal conversation. Gradually, this conversation becomes a little like an accusation. Brendon yells that it's an accident, but Drew tells him that he does not believe him and neither does the cops. He leaves with a warning, telling him that he and Libby are getting married next week and that wedding had better not turn into a funeral. At night, Drew is at the back of his house when Steph comes to visit. He is looking at the stars through a telescope. Steph asks if this is a kind of therapy. Yes it is, but it isn't really working. Drew tells Steph that he can't find Libby's star. Karl gave it to her for her 21st birthday. Drew tells her that they set this up together, and this is what they were doing, finding her star, when he realized that he loves her. But now Drew can't find her star. Steph comforts her, telling him that it's ok. But it's not. Later that night, Drew goes back to visit Libby. He sits by her through the night. Ron comes to visit Drew at the hospital. He asks how Libby is and Drew tells him that she's not all that good, but he's glad that he came to visit him. It's great to have family support in these situations. After a while, Dione comes to Karl and Susan telling them that Libby is fine. Her pulse is normal and so is her temperature. It's a miracle. Karl and Susan rushes into the room seeing Libby awake and smiling. Drew is at the coffee shop with Ron. He is on the mobile and is clearly happy that Libby is fine. He thanks his dad for coming to see him and calls his mother. Later he and Ron are at the garage where they discuss his future. Ron wants him Drew to be his partner at his garage back in Oakey, but Drew says he can't because Libby is a city girl and she has her studies. Ron tells him, it'll take a few years so think about it. Everyone is at the hospital, well kind of. Drew, Susan, Karl and Ron are there visiting Libby. Libby has a sore throat but Karl tells her, she'll be fine. She asks when she can come back back, but Karl tells her they still want to watch out for her but it will be soon. Libby asks Drew if he still wants to marry an old crock like her. Drew reply saying he'll think about it. They both smile. Later they talk about the wedding. Susan tells Libby that she has informed everyone that the wedding has been postponed. Drew tells Libby not to worry about the wedding. It will sort itself out in time. Drew tells Ron that the offer is great, to go back to Oakey and work there, but he has to speak to Libby about it first. He's not sure about all that. Later that day Drew, Steph and Toadie visits Libby at the hospital. She realizes that there is something going on between them but they refuse to tell the goss. Libby bugs them to tell her and eventually Steph does, in a way. Karl comes to visit Libby when Susan stops him to ask about Libby's condition, seeing the doctors are doing another test. Karl finally tells Susan that there may be consequences from the accident, and it's not good. |
