History:
Hugo Armstrong was the nephew of Captain Hugo Throssell of the 10 th Light Horse Regiment, who won the VC at Gallipoli
during WW1. He was born in Perth on 9th June 1916, and worked as a car salesman in Sydney before joining up. Posted to the
UK and joins 257 Sqn RAF. Summer 41 - Posted to 129 Sqn with the rank of Pilot Officer. 21 Sep 41 - Over Le Touquet destroyed
one Bf 109E. (1.0.0) 14 Mar 42 - Flying Spitfire, escorting Bostons attacking shipping at Le Harve, destroys one Bf 109F one
mile off Fecamp. (2.0.0) Apr 42 - Promoted to Flight Lieutenant and posted to 72 Sqn RAF. 27 May 42 - During a sweep near
Fecamp probably destroys one Bf 109. (2.1.0) Awarded DFC. Jul 42 - He was one of three pilots who simultaneously shot down
three seperate enemy aircraft. One of these three kills, which one it could not be decided, made the 900th success scored
by Englands most famous RAF fighter squadron station Biggin Hill. Sep 42 - Promoted to Squadron Leader. Nov 42 - Posted to
611 Sqn RAF as Commanding Officer. He was at twenty six, the first Australian J.A.T.P. trainee to command a RAF Squadron in
Britain. 02 Nov 42 - Destroyed one Fw 190. (3.1.0) Awarded Bar to DFC. 20 Jan 43 - Destroyed two Bf 109s. (5.1.0) 05 Feb 43
- Attempting to intercept a hit and run raid, "Sinker" and two others were bounced by eight Fw 190s and he was killed in action
and shot down into the English Channel.
