The Origin of the Mullet

(or so some think)

The origin of the Mullet goes all the way back to the Norse men who used to sail the rough Northern Atlantic Ocean. Rumor is that they styled there hair in this manor to keep there neck and upper backs warm and dry.  Looking back in history books and old documents this rumor could be true but there really is no true answer known to man on how the mullet began.

In the 1980’s the mullet took a turn for the worst.  The 80’s hair bands such as Slayer, Poison, Quiet Riot etc..  It was almost impossible to have a nice walk through the park without confronting a mullet. Since then though the mullet look has started to decline.  Now a-days seeing a mullet on a Sunday afternoon stroll is a lot less likely. However you still find people who think it’s cool to have half a hair cut.

Another rumor on how the name mullet got started is that it was named after the mullet fish. This is because the fish is small on top and long in the back.  I personally find this idea less believable, however it still maybe true. One thing for sure, the truth is out there. You can believe what you want but these are just some of the rumors of the origin of the fiercest hair cut ever. No matter how the mullet started believe me that when it was first created it was meant for good and that through many years and twisted tangles it has been transformed into something hideous.
