* Established a Drug Enforcement Unit funded from assets forfeited from drug dealers.
* Led a successful effort,
with clergy leaders, to set up the South East Michigan High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (SEM- HIDTA).
* Deployed
personnel to track down violent repeat offenders.
* Established an Internet Crimes Task Force to battle hi-tech digital
crime.
* Arrested employed persons who fraudulently sign up for public assistance payments.
* Seized the vehicles
of customers soliciting prostitutes.
* Seized and sold the vehicles of dead-beat parents in order to pay off their
outstanding child support debts.
* Ticketed hundreds of retail merchants illegally selling alcohol and tobacco to
underage youths.
* Closed down illegal underground rave parities and GHB distribution sites on the Internet.

Arrested individuals involved in cruel and gruesome dog fighting.
* Deputized local police officers and police reserves
from around the state to provide additional security at the International Border Crossings in Wayne County.
* Joined
public health officials in cracking down on tattoo artist that illegally tattoo children without parental consent.

Monitored the conditions in Nursing Homes to protect senior citizens from elder abuse and other violent crimes.

Robert A. Ficano A Democrat Of Our Future
Bob Ficano is the grandson of Italian-Catholic immigrants who moved to America seeking a better life. Through tireless
work and lots of sweat his parents instilled in him a desire to aid in the betterment of mankind.
After graduating
from law school Robert A. Ficano started down the path of public service which resulted in him becoming the leader of Michigan's
largest Sheriff's Department.
He leads a staff of 1,500 employees, balances an annual budget of $120 million,
and provides secure and humane custody for 36,000 inmates each year.
Safeguarding the public trust for 17 years, Robert
A. Ficano is a recognized leader of vision, integrity, and compassion. He is a relentless foe of criminals and a tireless
guardian of the public.
He has been innovative and visionary while setting aggressive standards for the men and women
of the Wayne County Sheriff's Department.
As a Democrat, he understands the plight of working people who want to raise
their families in safe and viable communities. Robert A. Ficano is an admirer of Franklin D. Roosevelt's ability to overcome
personal hardships and lead the country out of troubled times through innovative vision.

* Opened his Executive Office Building as on over-night warming shelter for the homeless. * Hosted in his "Sheriff
for the day" program terminally ill youths from the Make A Wish Foundation. * Provided free snow removal service
for sick and shut-in senior citizens. * Set up a "Second Chance" employment program for inmates leaving
the jail. * Provided toys and sponsored annual Christmas parties for the children of inmates. * Set up
strict internal controls to prevent misuse of force and racial profiling.
