It was the evening of July 4 and that night Style Council made their last live concert and the beginning of the end of the Council era had begun. Paul had listen to a lot of new dance music, acid jazz and housemusic, and this had brought quite an influence on him. The concert was to be at Royal Albert hall, who easily was sold out. Paul was in a great spirit with a dj gig at "The Home Of Acid Jazz "Dingwalls the night before still pulsing in his body. The group had probably made a great deal in making this a special night, they had a lot of guest, the cream of new British soul singers and the night was a tribute to what Paul called "acid mod surfers".
But this was not what the audience was expecting, with a best of record just out they wanted only hits, and they ended up at the first live house concert, not good. Style Council left the stage with the peoples booing in their ears.
Around this time they had recorded a new album, with a house feel to it, both Paul and partner in crime; Mick Talbot was very pleased with the album and the new direction that the group had taken. But their record company was not pleased with the new direction and refused
to release the album. The rejection of the album was the beginning of the end and after this the spirit was gone. The group made a television appearence in Japan , but the group was over. This left Paul without a record deal. But the deal was not the real problem, while trying to move on he could not write and make music. Maybe he could not get the house music out of the system, and he was to proud to release it himself just to get going. But a son a creative wife kept him busy. Working with the "Slam Slam" project and household kept him away from the clubs so his interest in housemusic faded, but Acid Jazz still got a grip on him and while at home he was flicking through his record collection and found all this records that made him start The Jam all this years ago. All this records and the vibes that the Acid Jazz gave started to rub of on him. Things started to make seance again and he was ready to play live again.
