1976 Tiny Dancer's additions: Abba - Arrival ("Dancing Queen," "Knowing Me, Knowing You," "Money, Money, Money") America - Hideaway ("Today's The Day") Their last top 40 hit of the decade. April Wine - The Whole World's Goin' Crazy ("Rock 'N' Roll Woman," "Like A Lover Like A Song") The first Canadian album to ship platinum (100,000 copies). Bay City Rollers - Rock N' Roll Love Letter ("Money Honey," "I Only Wanna Dance With You") Another big hit for the Rollers and another combo of European albums (Once Upon A Star and Wouldn't You Like It). Bay City Rollers - Dedication ("I Only Want To Be With You") Their last noteable album of the era. Bay City Rollers - Wouldn't You Like It ("I Only Wanna Dance With You," "Saturday Night") And I'm including this link for the Japanese release with the added hit "Saturday Night" as it's apparently a hot collector's item. The Carpenters - A Kind Of Hush ("There's A Kind Of Hush," "I Need To Be In Love") Harry Chapin - Greatest Stories Live ("Dreams Go By," "W. O. L. D.," "I Wanna Learn A Love Song," "Mr. Tanner," "A Better Place To Be," "Cat's In The Cradle," "Taxi," "Circle") Fantastic double album of Harry singing his stories live, what more do you need? I could have listed the whole thing, there's not a bum tune in the bunch. Fabulous. Harry Chapin - On The Road To Kingdom Come ("Corey's Coming," "If My Mary Were Here") Don't start with me on "Corey's Coming" or I'll start crying again, what a wonderful song. John Denver - Spirit Yet another beautiful album from Denver, it includes "The Wings That Fly Us Home" which was later heard at John's funeral. Neil Diamond - Beautiful Noise ("If You Know What I Mean") The Eagles - Their Greatest Hits - 1971-1975 Everyone had a copy of this one. Heck, l had it on 8-track *and* vinyl myself. There was something pretty darn liberating about popping in the tape to start my latest bicycle adventure to the tune of "Take It Easy" (I used to hang my 8-track player between my handlebars, what a dweeb!). They must have been pretty short trips, can't remember ever making it through to the last track, "Best Of My Love" but, man, I did some serious cruising to "Already Gone" :-) Kris Kristofferson and Barbara Streisand - A Star Is Born soundtrack ("Evergreen," "Watch Closely Now," "Lost Inside of You," "Hellacious Acres") If you can't stand either of these artists then don't bother with the soundtrack or the movie but if you're a Kris slut like I was back then then it's heaven! Barbara and Paul Williams shared the Oscar for Best Original Song for the lovely "Evergreen" and, frankly, Kris has never been sexier, rowr! Gordon Lightfoot - Summertime Dream ("The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald") Love it or hate it there's no denying that "The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald" was one of Gord's biggest hits. Little River Band - Little River Band ("It's A Long Way There") US release of their debut Australian album from '75 with their first hit. Barry Manilow - This One's For You ("This One's For You," "Daybreak," "Weekend In New England," "Looks Like We Made It") Joni Mitchell - Hejira ("Amelia") Jazzy and oh so cool just like Joni. Olivia Newton-John - Come On Over Olivia Newton-John - Don't Stop Believin' Linda Ronstadt - Hasten Down The Wind Linda hooked up with songwriters Warren Zevon for the title track and Karla Bonoff for "Someone to Lay Down Beside Me," "Lose Again," and "If He's Ever Near." Linda Ronstadt - Greatest Hits ("You're No Good," "Silver Threads And Golden Needles," "Desperado," "That'll Be The Day," "Different Drum," "When Will I Be Loved," "Heat Wave," "Tracks Of My Tears") Trooper - Two For The Show ("Santa Maria," "Boys In The Bright White Sportscar") Trooper's second album was worn to a nub on my turntable, great stuff! Paul Williams - Bugsy Malone soundtrack ("Fat Sam's Grand Slam," "Tomorrow," "My Name Is Tallulah," "I'm Feeling Fine," "So You Wanna Be A Boxer?," "Ordinary Fool") One of my favorite soundtracks of all time! And who can resist that cute little Scott Baio and Jodie Foster in the movie? I know I wanted to be Tallulah back then. Heck, I still wanna be ;-) 1970/ 1971/ 1972/ 1973/ 1974 1975/ 1976/ 1977/ 1978/ 1979 Visit us all at alt.culture.us.1970s Website designed and maintained by Tiny Dancer (tinyd@bell.net) Graphics courtesy of |
