Noteworthy and/or Hit LPs

1977

Tiny Dancer's additions:

Abba - Abba: The Album

("Eagle," "Take A Chance On Me," "The Name Of The Game," "Thank You for the Music," "I'm A Marionette")

So "Abba: The Movie" wasn't that great but, man, it produced an excellent album.

April Wine - Forever For Now

("You Won't Dance With Me")

This was a Myles Goodwyn solo project released under the group's name. Noteable for the huge radio hit "You Won't Dance With Me".

April Wine - Live At The El Mocambo

("Tonite Is A Wonderful Time To Fall In Love," "Oowatanite," "You Could Have Been A Lady")

Recorded at the legendary Toronto club when April Wine were the opening act for some band called The Rolling Stones. The gig nearly didn't happen as a member of that other band (Keith Richards) was charged with heroin possession. Tsk, tsk ;-)

Stephen Bishop - Careless

("On And On")

The Carpenters - Passage

("I Just Fall In Love Again," "Don't Cry For Me Argentina," "Sweet, Sweet Smile," "Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft")

Alice Cooper - Lace & Whiskey

("You And Me")

Captain & Tennille - Greatest Hits

("Love Will Keep Us Together," "Muskrat Love," "Hawaiian Wedding Song," "Come In From The Rain," "Lonely Night (Angel Face)," "Disney Girls"

Neil Diamond - Love at the Greek

("Kentucky Woman," "Sweet Caroline," "If You Know What I Mean," "Song Sung Blue," "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show")

Double live album, massive hit.

Neil Diamond - I'm Glad You're Here With Me Tonight

Noteable for his lovely solo version of "You Don't Bring Me Flowers".

Little River Band - Diamantina Cocktail

("Help Is On It's Way," "Happy Anniversary," "Another Runway," "Broke Again," "Take Me Home," "Days On The Road")

A compilation of their second and third Australian albums (After Hours and Diamantina Cocktail) this one would be the big breakthrough in the American market with the huge hit "Help Is On It's Way". It's still one of my favorite albums.

Barry Manilow - Live

("Looks Like We Made It," "New York City Rhythm," "Bandstand Boogie," "Weekend In New England," "Could It Be Magic / Mandy," "It's Just Another New Year's Eve")

Good heavens this double album was a monster and quite rightly so! I don't care what people think I'm woman enough to say I loved it and danced around my bedroom to Barry's excellent live show many times.

Olivia Newton-John - Making A Good Thing Better

Linda Ronstadt - Simple Dreams

("It's So Easy," "Blue Bayou," "Poor Poor Pitiful Me," "Tumbling Dice")

Q Magazine (8/00) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...[Her] most successful album ever ... continuing the commercial mix of classic and contemporary songs with stylish production values ... emphasizing her great talent as an exponent of other people's work ..."

It wasn't just the provocative cover that sold over three million copies of this beauty! Linda had huge hits with Buddy Holly's "It's So Easy", Roy Orbison's "Blue Bayou", The Rolling Stones' "Tumbling Dice" and Warren Zevon's "Poor Poor Pitiful Me".

Trooper - Knock 'Em Dead Kid

("We're Here For A Good Time (Not A Long Time)," "Oh Pretty Lady")

Two huge hits off this one and "We're Here For A Good Time (Not A Long Time)" is a true Canadian classic.

Various Artists - Saturday Night Fever soundtrack

THE monster album of the year if not the entire decade. The Bee Gees could do no wrong and ruled the airwaves with "Stayin' Alive", "How Deep Is Your Love", "Night Fever" and "More Than A Woman". Walter Murphy's big hit, "A Fifth Of Beethoven", was also included in this fab package.
