![]() ![]() Technologically sophisticated humanoid civilization that was long a complete mystery to the Federation prior to the first contact at planet Delpha Ardu in 2364. Originally from the planet Ferenginar, by the 24th century, the Ferengi were an interstellar culture. Posessing a strict code of honor, Ferengi philosophy ruthlessly embraces the principles of capitalism. Ferengi culture finds the concept of organized labor to be abhorrent, since such things can interfere with the exploitation of workers. They consider the sanctity of a contract to be the cornerstone of their civilization. Breaking any contract is unthinkable, and will generally result in the offender having his Ferengi business license revoked and all assets siezed, and him becoming a pariah in Ferengi society. Ferengi are sexist in the extreme, and do not allow their females to wear any clothing. Females are also kept house-bound, uneducated, and wholly dependent on their mail counterparts. It is illegal for females to earn profit, or to quote from the Rules of Acquisition, a sacred set of guidelines establishing the Ferengi business practices. They are also forbidden to travel or talk to strangers. Females are made to prepare and serve meals, and must soften the food for males by pre-chewing it. They are unreadable by Betazoids, due to the unusual four lobed design of Ferengi brains. They have elongated ears, an excellent sense of hearing, and overrated values on commerce.
