TIMELINE

Often our past history dictates the present-day actions to accomplish where we want to be in the future.

On June 21, 2000 - President Clinton honored long-neglected Asian American WWII soldiers. The names of the respective people are listed HERE.

One of the 46 founders of the present day Los Angeles was Antonio Miranda in 1781.

John F. Aiso of Los Angeles became the first judge of Nisei origin on the mainland in 1953.

1872 law prohibiting entry of "Orientals" without a permit and a 1905 law banning "the import of an oriental woman with the intent to sell her" are repealed in 1972!

Vietnamese are allowed to immigrate to the United States legally in 1980.

All American Girl, featuring Margaret Cho is on the air in 1994!

Ah Toy worked to escape the limited work opportunities to become a highly skilled and popular Madam in 1870.

Laws against bringing Asian women for prostitution, or laborer's wives and inability to become citizens were law in 1870.

In 1869, Pastor S.P. Aheong starts preaching.

Norman Minetta's career started in 1971.

Refugee camp used for Southeast Asians receiving center opens in 1975.

David Henry Hwang wins a Tony for M.Butterfly in 1989.

Sung v US Supreme Court stated that unreasonable search and seizure, cruel and unusual punishment, and trial without jury are acceptable in deportation proceedings.

JACL (Japanese American Citizens League) was formed in 1929. They are the oldest and largest Asian American organization in the U.S.

Washington State made attempts to stop any "Interracial Marriages" between somebody White and Black/Brown/Yellow Race in 1937.

California lifts the ban on "Interracial Marriages" in 1948.

M. Night Shyamalan's SIXTH SENSE is available on video in 1999.

First California census that included Chinese Americans was in 1850

California Governor George C. Perkins made March 4, 1882 a legal holiday for anti-Chinese Demonstrations.

Korean American Coalition (KAC) is a non-profit, non-partisan community advocacy organization established in 1983.
