And Yet Still More Random Thoughts

The Secret Language

I'm so tired that when I just walked downstairs and overheard my mom and dad having a conversation, this is what I heard:

"Was it rumpole or me?"
"I think it was me."
"Me with horse fries?"
"Jondo."

Now, I am really really tired, so it could be that I just heard them wrong, but my parents have been married for fifty years, so there is a very real possibility that they've taught themselves a made-up language. But whatever the reason is, I had no idea what they were talking about.

The funny thing is, when you're as tired as this, you hear people saying things like "Jondo" and it seems perfectly normal and natural. And so I continued walking into the kitchen to get a drink of water and I'm thinking "Jondo," and I'm not thinking that it sounds weird or stupid at all, and then I say the word "Jondo" out loud and then suddenly I realize that it's not even a word, and I start to laugh. Not because the word itself is funny, but the fact that I thought it sounded normal is hilarious to me.

Back in the 70's and early 80's, I used to know some people who would do drugs all the freakin' time, and they used to laugh like this. And every once in a while someone will read this website and tell me that the stuff I think about is just exactly like the stuff that they think about when they're on drugs. Which is kind of funny to me. Because I don't do drugs.

Anyway...

So I'm standing in the kitchen and I'm laughing at the word "Jondo" and then I start thinking that this may be kind of like on the show Smallville when Clark just touches this weird stone and then suddenly he can read and write in Kryptonian. And maybe someone downloaded an alien language into my parents' brains. And maybe they did it just to get to me.

And then I start thinking about this episode of The Twilight Zone where there was this dude who studied language, and suddenly he couldn't understand anything. Like, it started off small, where one word suddenly meant something else entirely, and then another and then another, until suddenly he couldn't understand anything at all. That was kind of weird. It doesn't have anything to do with what I was talking about, but it was kind of weird.

Oh wait, no, it's exactly what I was talking about. So, nevermind. Sorry.
