The misinterpretation usually has to do with someone having an affair, being gay (or not), or pregnant. Character C acts differently around Characters A and B, until they finally confront each other, something along the lines of

Character A: Really? We wanted it to be a surprise!
 
The conversation goes on and on, and neither has a clue what the other is talking about (and neither bothers to mention the word "affair," "gay," or "pregnant"). Then they straighten it all out. Til next week.

Someone lands on the Island (who may or may not look exactly like one of the ones who are already there), or a piece of technology or a magic bean is found, that promises a way off the Island. In the end the person leaves and for some selfish reason can't or won't ever tell anyone about the castaways, or Gilligan trips over something or accidentally eats the magic bean. During the course of the episode, someone may or may not turn invisible, learn to fly, get amnesia, lose their hair, get superpowers or run away to "the other side of the Island". Primitive natives may or may not be involved. The end.
