The rain to the wind said, "You push and I'll pelt." They so smote the
garden bed That the flowers actually knelt, And lay lodged -- though not
dead. I know how the flowers felt.

-- Robert Frost

I was already on my knees when the call came.  Skinner with the news
of Mulder's capture.

Warring emotions push and pelt my weary heart.  Relief that he is
alive.  Anxiety over his condition.  Joy at the prospect of seeing him
again.  Fear that our cause is lost.

And most of all, dread at the thought of telling him about our son.

I must gather my wits and my petals about me now.  I will remember
our days of beautiful blooms, standing proud with him in the mid-
summer rays.  There was a time when our love, unspoken, triumphed
over all obstacles.  When hope prevailed.

I have weathered much.  But although I am lodged, I am not dead.
