"Pieces of Eight" marked the bands eighth album, and it was their first album after their exhaustive tour in support of the hugely successful album "The Grand Illusion." Could they live up to the success of their previous album? Would Styx fade away, never to be heard from again?

With the release of "Pieces of Eight," Styx showed that not only would they not fade away, but they also showed that they could live up to the high expectations that were set for them after the release of "The Grand Illusion!" "POE" was a huge success with songs like "Blue Collar Man" and "Renegade, and it was the second in what would be a string of triple platinum selling albums for Styx.

Furthermore, the tour that accompanied the album pushed the envelope of the traditional rock and roll performance. "The Main Event," as the tour was called, combined theatrics and special effects, and STYX was finally selling out venues around the world!
