Metro Richmond Emergency Planning Group Best Practices

Recognition as a Best Practice is based on nomination by an individual familiar with the nominated program and peer review by the Best Practices Committee of the Metro Richmond Emergency Planning Group. Best Practices are selected based on their originality, professional execution, and contribution to emergency management and business continuity. Selection as a Best Practice is intended to recognize those programs and activities that set a standard of practical excellence and to document the activities of MREPG and other professional emergency management and business continuity organization member agencies as a gold standard for these professions.


Best Practices - Government and Public Sector

THE VIRTUAL EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER:

The Virtual Emergency Operations Center is a volunteer managed facility that uses the Internet to provide emergency information management services to served public safety and voluntary agencies. The staff of the Virtual EOC is physically disbursed and uses electronic communication to exchange information and perform emergency operations centers functions. Detailed standard operating procedures provide the basis for a virtual incident command system. The focus of this Internet facility is on providing near real time services to agencies; it is not a general public access site.


Best Practices - Private Sector

THE ELECTRONIC JOURNAL OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT:

The Electronic Journal of Emergency Management is a peer-reviewed, on-line electronic journal that publishes new research in emergency management, disaster science, and disaster history. It solicits articles from undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and practitioners. Access to the Journal is at no-charge.

INTEGRATED EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT BENCHMARK:

Integrated Emergency Management Benchmark is a meta-site that provides academically assessed links with content commentary to emergency management and disaster related Internet sites. Benchmark supports practitioner and academic research related to emergency management.
