POSITIONING AND CONCEPTUALIZATION

srule02.gif (3262 bytes)

The Eastern Lake Zone is located on the southern side of the Mosque and is composed of 11.0 hectares of land area and 4.2 hectares of water area. This Zone’s positioning is to give it a strong religious atmosphere, in view of its being adjacent to the State Mosque, and for it to be a tranquil zone. It contrasts clearly with the activity of the Central Lake Zone, and the expansiveness of the Western Lake Zone. Therefore in this zone provision is made of Mosque Front Garden, Memorial Plaza, Ornamental Garden, parking, and the beautiful lake, facilities unsuitable to this zone will not be planned. In overall terms, priority is given to the movement of pedestrians from the town center to the Mosque, and from the Mosque parking lot to the park, and the Sacred Garden which would be visited before and after prayers at the Mosque is planned so as to have an abundance of shade trees and flowers. The Eastern Lake has among its functions to serve as a reflection lake for te Mosque, and its apperance from the Town Hall and Memorial Plaza is given special attention.

  1. CHARACTERISTICS AND SCALE OF MAJOR FACILITES

The Eastern Lake Zone is composed of the major facilities indicated below:

MOSQUE FRONT GARDEN the magnificence of the State Mosque is amplified by means of the grass area which extends from the Mosque to the road surrounded by trees on both sides, which is constructed on a slight elevation, and by the cascade which flows through the central portion of those areas.

Use of water and mist is planned at the meeting point where the centerline of the Moque and an imaginary extension of the eastern road meet to make that a focal point.

Here, the Mosque is viewed on the far side of a green expanse of   lawn, but when viewed from the Memorial Plaza it is seen on the far side of the lake, thus presenting two distinctly separate aspects.

MEMORIAL PLAZA a portion of the park is set aside for the specific purpose of commermorating the acomplishments of the Sultan and the history of Selangor State, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his taking the throne; this is desgnated as the Memorial Plaza.

The Memorial Plaza, which is between the padang and the Eastern Lake, is about 5 metres lower in elevation than the padang and on the face of the wall formed by the difference in elevation will be a relief inscribing the accomplishments of the Sultan and the history of Selangor State. The flow of water from the Mosque Front Garden is to be such as to create a natural atmosphere, and is to be a murmuring brook folwing into the Eastern Lake. But it reuires further examinations and discussions.

ORNAMENTAL GARDEN The Ornamental Garden is an important portion on the path taken betweeen the Twn Center and Mosque, adjacent to the Eastern Lake and Mosque Front Garden. The flow of water from the Mosque Front Garden is to be such as to create a natural atmosphere, and is to be a murmuring brook flowing into the lake.  sac-garden.JPG (64257 bytes)

The Ornamental Garden is to be provided with a large variety of distinctive tropical plants, with the planting developed on the basis of the brook which serves as an axis in the design. Beautiful flowering plants along the garden path would induce peace of mind among the people who pass by the brook.

PARKING LOT Although the parking lot is planned with the intention being primarily for use by people who come to pray at the Mosque, it would also be used by people who come to the park on days other than Fridays or other holidays. It is to have sufficient capacity for 500 cars, and can be used by a great number of persons.

The design of the parking area would avoid rigid linear outlines and would call for generous use of planting materials. It would have ample shade and be planned so as to contribute to the overall wooded landscape of the park.
