Printer Needed
If you can help us with our printing of the HOGWASH, please call Rene' at Harley-Davidson of Atlanta and discuss what you can offer. Thanks, we really need some help.
Thanks to Harland and Linda Moody for the Door Prizes they donated at our February Chapter Meeting, a dozen beautiful red roses, several boxes of Valentines Chocolate Candy and two delicious pies. The roses were won by Jimmy Lewis. Jimmy did you tell your wife that you "won" them? If not, hope she does not read the HOGWASH!
I hope everyone has made it back from Daytona Bike Week safely. We had two meeting in Daytona, dinner at Julian's and lunch at the Decks Down Under. We chose Julian's Dinner as a Willie G. Ride, so everyone attending received a ticket for attending and one if they were wearing any Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. attire. Remember, we will draw for a leather jacket at our Anniversary Party. You must be present with your winning ticket to receive the jacket.
Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. has had a very busy activity schedule for March. We had Impromptu Lunch Rides on every Friday, Impromptu Ride on Sunday, March 4, New Member Orientation on March 10, L.O. H. St Patrick's Lunch Ride, March 17, Cherry Blossom Ride to Macon, March 25 and Music Barn Festive Ride, March 31. My thanks to Steve Johnson, Dick Cadou, David Olszewski, Patty Toney, Vernon Eldred and John Christiansen for setting up and leading rides in March. I sincerely hope you have found one of these to your liking and participated in the ride with the Atlanta Chapter. The Ride leaders spend time searching out and setting up these rides. Your participation makes these efforts worthwhile.
Some of us Officers, who have not done so in the past, participated in the Primary Officer's Training in Panama City, Florida on March 24 and 25. I hope we learned something from this training and will be able to pass on to the Chapter valuable information gleaned from the training.
I hope everyone is keeping up with the deadlines for making motel reservation on our over night rides. Some deadlines have already passed. If you are still interested in participating in these rides, call Patty Toney, L.O.H. Officer, and she will try and help you with reservations ... No Guarantees. When making reservations, PLEASE call Patty and not the mote direct. In some cases, when we book a certain number of rooms, the motel will give us a free room, which will be passed on to a lucky Atlanta Chapter Member.
Our Deepest Sympathy goes to Norma Wilson, Director, Clayton County, Harley Owners Group in the passing of Roger.
A Thank You Note, was received from Nonnie Woodard expressing her gratitude for sympathy and friendship express, in the passing of Terry, from the Atlanta Chapter.
Please call or email me about any concerns you have about the Atlanta Chapter. All input is welcomed, good or bad. I would like to hear from you!
Remember that alcohol is not permitted on Atlanta Chapter Rides. If you must drink and ride, you will be ask to leave the ride. PLEASE! Don't make our Ride Captains make this decision.
We are instituting this year, what we call "Willie G. Rides." We will give tickets on special rides, which will be you're responsible for keeping up with. At the Anniversary party we will draw a ticket and the Luck Member will receive a Leather Jacket. "Willie G. Rides" will not be announced in advance. We will pick one, two three or none, rides a month that will qualify for the "Willie G. Ride." So too win, you will have to attend as many rides as your time permits.
Must be a member in good standing with the National Harley Owners Group and the Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G.
Must participate in designated "Willie G. Ride" to receive a ticket.
If you have on any Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. logo apparel, vest, tee-shirt, cap, etc., you will receive an additional ticket. Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. must be clearly visible and authorized merchandise.
Must be present at Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. Anniversary Party where ticket will be drawn. We will draw till we have a winner.
Not too hard is it. So just ride, eat and have fun with the Atlanta Chapter and maybe win a Leather Jacket.
Ride Safe and Have Fun!

Hey Folks! I trust everyone got their fill of Daytona for a while at least. That place is something else isn't it?! I love it but a little goes a long way with me. Well, as I write this we have had two Friday lunch rides, the weather was pretty bad for both of them and for the first one we had two bikes, with three riders, Dick and Marcie Cadou and myself. We rode about thirty miles of back roads and ate at "Sam's and Roscoe's" in Douglasville ... and for the second ride there was only Dick and me, so we just hung around the shop a for couple of hours. Then on Saturday we had the new member orientation and we had three new members for that event, plus Dick and myself. They are very nice folks and experienced riders and I look forward to being on some of the rides with them this year. I hope ya'll all have made arrangements to join Tom Sigerfoos on his ride to LaPrades on April 8th and Patty Toney on the 14th on her L.O.H. ride to the Lighthouse. And by all means remember to join Eddie and Chris on their Charleston S.C. ride, from the 1 19th through the 22nd, it is a wonderful ride and always a real treat.
Ride today like you want be able to ride tomorrow!
Please Ride Responsible,
Steve JohnsonRide Director,Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G.
LADIES OF HARLEY FEBRUARY RIDE - If you missed the I st "official" L.O.H. ride on February 24 to Gumbeauxs, you missed a great time. The weather was gray and yes, cool. Some, experienced rain before leaving their homes, but they came anyway in their cars. We were honored to have seven members of the Marietta Chapter go with us. So with nine bikes, three cars and 19 people, we managed to stay together and no one got lost. Of course this was a short but a sweet fide. I don't think you could get lost on this one even if you wanted to. Thanks to everyone who came out and showed your support. And a special thanks to Marietta Chapter for coming along with us and helping to make this a memorable lunch fide. Be sure to check out the pictures B.K. took. Be sure to thank him too. He actually put his life on the line to get the picture. Well not really, but he was backing up farther and farther to get everyone in and was close to backing up into traffic. Maybe you had to be there, but I'm sure you can tell something is up by the laughter on everyone's faces in the picture. Thanks B.K., we really do appreciate you and the pictures you take. The St. Patrick's Day fide to Blue Willow Inn in Social Circle was great fun. We had 27 people turn out for this. The weather was terrific, the company was fabulous and the food was out of this world, even the "green" mashed potatoes, biscuits and lemonade. Bud and Russ were funny, they said "there were just some things that shouldn't be green" as they tried to decide whether or not to try green potatoes (they did). I want to send a special thank you to Linda Moody for making green ribbons for everyone to wear. That was a special touch Linda, thank you.
Now on a more serious note. Regarding hotel reservations; I'm going to ask that you not to call the hotel yourself to make your own reservations. I have been keeping up with that and when this happens I might not always get the word, and will eventually book a room to someone who calls me not knowing it is already booked because someone called on their own, and then someone won't have a room to stay in when we arrive at our destination. Now, that would be a bad, bad thing. I want to thank you in advance for your understanding and your support. Man, I sound like Bartles and James here. Anyway, call me to make your reservations and be sure to watch those deadlines.
And let me know how I am doing!
Catch ya later, see ya.
Patty Toney Ladies of Harley Officer, Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G.
Hello Atlanta H.O.G. I hope all of the lucky riders that were able to attend bike week had a safe and excellent time. Continuing from last month, not only can you enhance your riding skills by taking a class sponsored by the MSF now Harley-Davidson is offering their own course called "Rider's Edge". Atlanta H-D will offer the Rider's Edge program beginning this spring under the guidance of Dennis Harmon. Dennis provided some interesting facts that present a compelling case for formal rider training: 50% of motorcycle accidents involve riders with less than five months experience and 90% of the riders involved in accidents are self-taught. Hopefully, Dennis will be joining us at a chapter meeting soon to provide all of the details. In the meantime, if you would like to learn more about Rider's Edge, check out the H-D website.
Safety Tip of the Month: Always try to anticipate what the other riders and traffic around you are going to do, but never assume. Knock on wood, but I have only gone down twice in more than 20 year's of riding. (Of course, that is street riding. I seem to spend more time off the bike than on it when riding off-road, but that's another story). Anyway, one incident happened because I assumed what the driver in front of me would do. I assumed that since there was no traffic, the driver would not stop but merge onto the expressway. I turned my head to check for oncoming traffic so I could follow along and when I turned back around, the driver in front of me had come to a complete stop. Unfortunately, it had just started to rain and my motorcycle was in the oil soaked part of the lane (I'll have to get to this in another safety tip). When I grabbed the brakes, the bike just slid right out from under me. I picked the bike up and kept on going with only a bruised ego.
It was a hard lesson to learn, but one I will never forget: Always Anticipate, but Never Assume.
If you ride safe, you'll ride longer!

Well, spring is here and it is time for LaPrade's to open for another season. We are featuring a Sunday ride on April 8th, so all can enjoy the fried chicken and other delicious goodies that are the hallmark of this rustic home style restaurant on scenic Lake Burton. This ride has always had a good turnout and I can't recall anyone who did not have a good time and a wonderful meal.
I will be trying a new route up to LaPrade's this time but we will come home via GA 197, which is the way we normally go up. To get there, we will head up I-575 to GA 136 and then head east into Dahlonega where we will pick up US 129 for some nice curving terrain that will eventually take us to Helen, Ga. From there we will take GA 75 S to GA 356, go past Unicoi State Park and then briefly up 197 to Lake Burton. We'll be eating at 1:30 P.M., so make sure to have a bite of breakfast first ... in fact our meeting place is at the Cracker Barrel, Chastain Road on 1-75N (exit 271), so that will provide an opportunity to do just exactly that.
Please come join us for what has become a Chapter favorite (we go twice a year...Spring and Fall Editions!). I will guarantee you a good ride and a great meal.
WHAT: LaPrade's Ride WHEN: Sunday, April 8,2001 MEETING TIME: 10:00 A.M., PLACE: Cracker Barrel, Chastain Road I-75 N (EXIT 271) DEPARTURE: 10:40 A.M. Safety briefing starts at 10:20, so get there in time to sign in and be covered. Make sure you are gassed up and read to ride!

On June 8th -10th we will do a 3 day, 2 night overnight ride along what is known as the Southern Highroads Trail. So plan now for this early summer mini-vacation. This may be one of the most scenic rides you will ever go on.
As of now, I have not planned out the ride in great detail, but wanted to get this into our newsletter so folks will know it is upcoming, and can start making plans if you want to go.
The Southern Highroads Trail consists of US 64 through southwest North Carolina and US 76 through North Georgia; there is also a short loop through northwest South Carolina as well. On some of our LaPrade's rides we have gone across most of US 76 so I am going to modify the ride a bit, and what we will do is US 19/74 through northwest North Carolina and then come back via the loop into South Carolina and then along the US 64 route in south west North Carolina. We will begin our ride from Marietta, GA and come into North Carolina via the Cherohala Skyway from Tennessee. For those of you who might have gone on the Saddle 'n Paddle two years ago, you will remember what a gorgeous ride this piece is ... for those who have not been this way, plan for a real treat!! The ride will also feature a piece of the Blue Ridge Parkway as well, so we should definitely hit all the best this area has to offer.
I will be laying out the ride in more detail in late April and will check out hotels and restaurants so we can get everything set well in advance. I figure we will ride about 175 miles a day, allowing ample time for photos and what not, for a relaxing couple of days. This time of year it will be real pleasant up there, and will allow us to escape the summer heat of "the big city".
So, again plan now for what may be one of the summer's best rides!! Watch future HOGWASH newsletters for more details. If you have questions, please call me at (770) 971-4467, or via e-mail: dynabear@aol.com.

Thanks to Lee Benton, our impromptu ride leader, for a very spirited ride around Cobb County. We saw everything but the Big Chicken. The weather was cold, too bad we had not chosen Friday for the ride when the temperature was in the seventies, but not bad for February. The rain had stopped in the early morning and the sun was out. The Spaghetti Warehouse was ready for us with the table all setup. The only problem was someone forgot to tell the Chief that the 15 layer Lasagna was suppose to be made fresh daily, according to the menu. I think it had been left over from the day before and microwaved. With my complaints aside, everyone enjoyed the ride and the dinner conservation.
I picked this as a 'Willie G. Ride", so everyone received a ticket for participating and an additional ticket if they had on some attire depicting the Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. Sorry Patty, Harley-Davidson of Atlanta attire does not count.
