The shill of the phone ringing broke the silence between Taylor and Stephanie. Taylor wasn't going to answer it, so Stephanie picked it up. "Hello Hanson residence...Yes, he is. Who, my I ask, is calling?... Oh, sure, just a minute," Stephanie said to the person on the other end of the phone, then whispered to Taylor, "Tay, it's for you." "Tell them I'll call them back." "It's Kristin," Stephanie replied, knowing what ever it was, he would want to talk to her about it. Stephanie was sure of this, because Kristin sounded pretty upset. "Hello," Taylor said, taking the phone from Stephanie. "Tay, oh thank God you're home! Did you get the letter yet?" Kristin asked. "Yes, I got it, what are we supost to do?" "Go back, I guess. That was the last time I was there. It's going to be so hard going back," Kristin said glumly. "I know. We even canceled the tour performance there because it was too hard." "I remember. We should probably go back as soon as possible, before the press get ahold of it. That would make it all the harder for the rest of the world to know." "We should all go back at the same time. It will make it easier to have everyone there." "Yes, that's probably a good idea. I miss her so much," Kristin said, nearly in tears again. "I miss her too. Not a day goes by that I don't think about her." "Everybody does. It's just been so long since we talked about it. How are you doing? Do you need me to come up there, then we can go back together. You probably took it the worst," Kristin offered. She needed to see him again, because he was the closest to Beth out of the boys. "Yeah, that sounds good," Taylor agreed. "Ok, I'll come as soon as I can. I'm going to get some tickets and call Kate. It might be good for her to come too," Kristin said. "Yeah, ok. Zac and Ike will probably come too. We have enough room for everyone to stay in our house," Taylor said. "Ok, I'll call you as soon as I know when I'm coming. Does Stephanie know? She sounded like she didn't have a clue what was going on." "No, not yet. Ok, call me as soon as you know." "Ok, bye Tay." "Bye," Taylor said then hung up. He sat down on the bed next to Stephanie. "Now Taylor, what's wrong? What happened?" Stephanie asked gently, knowing whatever it was, it must have been terrible. "You wouldn't understand. It was so long ago," Taylor said as another tear slipped down his cheek. "Maybe I won't, but I can try. Taylor, you can tell me anything, you know that. I'm your wife, we're not supost to have any secrets." Taylor was about to tell her, but Brook ran into their room crying. "Baby, what's wrong?" Taylor asked, setting Brook on his lap. "Am I adopted?" Brook asked, worriedly. "No, honey. Why would you think that?" Stephanie asked Brook. "Anna and Brad said that I was adopted because I have red hair and no one else in our family has red hair," Brook replied. "Honey, I had red hair when I was little. It just turned blonde. You're not adopted," answered Stephanie. "I'll go talk to Brad and Anna," Taylor said, as he walked over to the room next door and had a talk with his two eldest children. In the middle of his lecture, the phone rang. "Steph, will you get that?" Taylor yelled. Stephanie answered the phone, then handed the phone to Taylor. "It's Zac," she said. "Why is he calling? It's not anybody's birthday?" Brad asked. His question went unanswered. The phone conversation went basically the same as Kristin's.
Taylor had just gotten off the phone with Isaac, who had called after Zac. "Steph, some people are going to stay with us tomorrow night, and the night after that," Taylor said. "Ok," Stephanie answered.
"Gol, why's it so quiet in there?" Brad asked his sisters. "I know. What's the deal with Minnesota I heard them talking about?" Anna asked. "When I went in to ask if I was adopted, Dad was crying," piped Brook. "Oh my gosh! This must be serious. Dad never cries!" Anna exclaimed. Then Ryan walked into the room. "What! Daddy's crying? I'll go ask what's wrong," he said worriedly. "No!" Anna quickly yelled. "You can't or you'll end up like Andrew," Brad shot back. "Who's Andrew?" Ryan asked. "Andrew's our other brother. Before you were born, we had a brother named Andrew. When he was about your age, he went to ask Dad something. But Dad got mad at him, and Andrew never came back," Anna explained. "Poor Andrew," Brook joined in. "That's not true!" Ryan yelled. "Go ask Dad," Brad chimed. "Maybe I will," Ryan said, stomping to the room next door.
Steph was about to ask Taylor again, but was interupted by Ryan. "Daddy, what did you do to Andrew?" Ryan asked. "Have your brother and sisters been telling you stories again?" Taylor replied. "Yeah," he answered. "Well, don't believe them, there was never an Andrew," Taylor said, reasuringly. Stephanie went over to Brad's room and started talking to her children. "Don't tell Ryan about Andrew. He's not supost to know about him. Now get ready for dinner, I'll meet you downstairs," she said, as the kids gave each other a weird look. Each was thinking, "There really is a Andrew?" to themselves.
