Trips and Vacations
June/July 2004 - CALIFORNIA! San Diego, Los Angeles area, up the coast to Monterey and San Franciso, Yosemite National Park, Sequoia National Park, and Kings Canyon National Park. Click here to see some pictures.
Easter 2004 - Cruise to Grand Caymen and Cozumel! Wonderful trip!
Dec 2003 - Bowl game in Phoenix!
We went to Florida in August 2003. The Keys are beautiful. I hope to upload pics one of these days.
We went to Atlanta for our summer vacation in 2002. Click here to read more about it.
We saw Jo Dee Messina and Brad Paisley in concert at Wolf Trap in 2002.
April 2001 - Sharon and I spent the Easter 2001 weekend at the Outer Banks, NC. I'll get pictures uploaded someday (maybe).
March 2001 - Sharon and I spent an evening and part of the next day with Sharon's Aunt Mary and Uncle Dick in Williamsburg. It was a nice visit, and dinner at the King's Arms Tavern was great.
We went down to Jacksonville to see VA Tech stomp Clemson in the Gator Bowl on Jan. 1, 2001. It was impressive, with Tech winning 41-20. While in Florida, we spent a day at Disney World and a day at Universal Studios. We also got to see my grandparents, my brother, my sister and her family, and the manatees at Blue Springs State Park. I've got some pictures from the trip, and plan to upload a few more. Some random thoughts from the trip:
- Don't go to IHOP or Denny's on New Year's Day.
- The New Year's Eve fireworks along the river in Jacksonville were great!
- They should have planned on more people being at the Tech pep rally, and it should have lasted a lot longer with more players speaking and the band getting to play more.
- The Clemson fans who wrote on their cars that they were going to do the Hokie Pokie got to do the Hokie Pokie all the way home with their little tiger tails tucked between their legs.
- Bowl games shouldn't be scheduled so that the traffic from one bowl game (the Outback Bowl) reaches Jacksonville right after the Gator Bowl ends. It makes for quite a traffic jam.
- Florida isn't always warm! It got below freezing several nights while we were there.
Sharon and I went down to Tech for the football game against Pittsburgh on October 28, 2000. It was a very exciting game. Tech's quarterback and human highlight machine, Michael Vick, got hurt in the first half, but Tech was able to fight back to win on a field goal with less than a minute to go!
Sharon and I went down to Blacksburg on October 13, 2000 to visit Matt for his birthday. We went to Tech's basketball "midnight madness" and hiked up to the Cascades
Sharon and I spent a 4 day weekend at the Outer Banks in early October 2000 for our 23rd anniversary. Despite some lousy weather at times, we had a great time.
We went out west in August 2000 for our summer vacation. We spent some time with Sharon's brother Pete, who is a park ranger at Joshua Tree National Park in southern California. Then we went up to northern Arizona. Click here for more info about our trip. (Note - This is a work in progress, so check back for updates.)
Sharon and I went to Reno, Nevada for the Learning Disabilities Association (LDA) International Conference in February 2000. To find out more about our trip, click here. (Note - This is another work in progress, so check back for updates.)
January 2000 - We went to the SUGAR BOWL in New Orleans. It was a great trip, except for the final score. Tech played an awesome game, but wasn't quite good enough. They still finished in second place in the country in the AP poll. I'll be adding some pictures from our trip to the Sugar Bowl sometime. For now, you can check out a few of the restaurants where we ate - K Paul's, Olde N'Awlins Cookery, and Mother's. Or you can see a list of the hot sauces that I bought on the trip, or click here to see how I decorated my office door in honor of the Hokies.
We spent a week in Florida in early August 1999.
- We spent a few days in Ormond Beach for my grandparents 50
th anniversary. The party went well, and they really liked the quilt that the whole family gave them. The squares are made from family pictures printed on fabric. I did the scanning, touch-up, and printing of the pictures, and Sharon did the hard part - making them into a quilt. Click here to see some pictures of the quilt and party.- We spent 4 days at Disney World and Universal Studios. More details later, including why you should boycott the Days Suites Maingate on West Irlo Bronson Highway.
July 1999 - Sharon and I went to a wedding in the Thousand Islands area of upstate New York. While there, we stayed at Alexandria Bay. We took an evening boat tour on the St. Lawrence Seaway, and visited Boldt Castle. We also visited the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown on our way up there. Check out the pictures from the trip.
