A picture that nicely illustrates the mess in Indian telecom is shown below. On this pole, you see the electrical wires on top, the telephone wires below them, and yes, they are stretched by the shortest possible path to the subscriber. New is the box at the bottom, which belongs to the cable TV operator, who supplies me an Internet connection from this box. The blue car behind is mine (Arun Mehta).
