Michiru: Oh! Those must be our fans, Haruka. So cute, aren't they?

Haruka: Yes indeed ... my, what lovely eyes you have. Yes, you with the long hair .. I've been looking for a girl like you...

Michiru: Haruka!

{Michiru gives Haruka a Look}

Haruka: Ah, I was only playing. Anyway, Michiru and I have a lot to say about the style of SM pages these days. They have evolved for several years now, with trends coming and going, such as...

  • Pop-up windows with anything from updates to entire pages in tiny window sizes. I thought this was quite a nice idea.
  • Little pictures of the senshi from video games, screen captured off computer program versions of the games. SD game senshi, I believe they're known as. These are also pretty cute.
  • Tiny, tiny text, or non-Times New Roman text. This was a nice change; Times New Roman gets sooo boring.
  • Character shrines were very popular for a while as well
  • Fan-oriented pages sprung up, such as this very help page
  • Awards systems were made to promote comradeship, or something. A lot of the awards actually didn't mean anything.
  • Split images in a layout were very popular; also a nice idea, but somtimes unnecessary.
Those are just some examples, and my objective opinions.

Michiru: However, we think there should be guidelines for pages to have. These are our opinions and not laws, you may or may not take them seriously. (Gosh, I'm starting to sound like Usagi-star! ^.^).

  • A page should not be too complicated. The layout, hopefully, should not be cluttered with unnecessary images or text; don't ramble, please! A "welcome to my page, enjoy your stay" should, in most cases, be sufficient.
  • The layout would be even more admirable if it matched the subject matter; for instance, if you're doing a page on Neptune (meee ^.^), the layout should be fine and graceful (like moi ^.^). I think this site is a perfect example. Or, if you're doing a site on Chibiusa, make the layout happy and bright. Get it? ^_^
  • Try making separate index pages; one for information, one for multimedia, and one for extra, etc. You can choose the categories, of course, but it's just wise not to make your visitors choose from all the page's features at once.
  • Please don't have an overblown ego when writing on your page; humility is key. However, don't go the opposite direction: I have seen more than once a page that says something like "welcome to my page. Since you obviously have nothing else to do, sign the guestbook." Insulting the viewer seems just stupid to me.
  • Extrapolating is a good idea. Writing about Sailormoon or a character's relation to something unrelated to Sailormoon is often very entertaining; a good example is the now-dead Sailormoon and Holsts' the Planets and ceratin astrology pages.
So there you have it. Our opinions after months of internet surfing. Have fun, kids ^.^
