Krycek's Evolution

I don't have to tell you this but I am thoroughly obsessed with Alex Krycek.  I've expounded on it before.  (Don't know why? Click here to find out.)  My obsession probably started, oddly enough, with a different show.

I used to watch "Sliders."  I don't remember the name of the episode but there was one where one could get money from the ATM for nothing.  The more you got the more chances you had to win the lottery.  The grand prize was death.    Anyway, in the episode there was a guy named Ryan.  Ryan was played by Nicholas Lea.  I was extremely disappointed when Ryan made no more appearances on the show.  When I saw my first Krycek episode I was hooked.

Now those shallow beginnings notwithstanding, Krycek is all the things I've mentioned and more.  The character is more interesting than Mulder.  Especially if you try to get into the head of the character.  You just can't do it with Krycek and that's what makes him more interesting.  Nevertheless, it doesn't hurt that the package is pretty.

I'll have to admit that he didn't start off that way.

When I saw my first Krycek episode it was well into Season Three and I had missed the whole FBI camouflage stage.  Imagine my surprise when I finally saw "Sleepless" and caught a look at that hideous suit.  No wonder so many Philes hated him.  They introduced him as an interloper, an unwanted pseudo-partner for Mulder at a time when people were wondering when Mulder and Scully were going to be partnered together again.  Then on top of it they make him a traitor.  This was not going to endear him to too many Philes.  But they didn't stop there.  If it weren't enough that he was an interloper and a traitor they put him in that God-awful suit and over-gelled the hair.  Were they trying to make him look unattractive?  It's no wonder he was so hated.  People tend to make allowances for people they perceive to be cute.  (If you don't believe me see how much allowances an ugly dingy person gets.  I rest my case.)  Of course, now no matter what Krycek does, no matter how good he looks very few can see past his previous misdeeds and stop marking him for death.  Oh well, I suppose not everyone can have my exceedingly good taste. <BEG>

In this section I will chronicle how Krycek went from FBI geek to quasi-villainous chic episode by episode.  I'll detail which clones were inspired by which looks and my not necessarily unbiased opinion on the look and it's place in Krycek's evolution.
