Basic
Strategies
-
Communication
The CS Team put the radio sounds in for a reason. Take advantage of them!
Bind keys to radio1, radio2, and radio3; better yet bind keys to individual
radio messages. If nothing else at least have bind keys to Roger
That/Affirmative and Negative.
-
Know
Teammates location
Be sure to glance up in your upper left corner occasionally where the radar
is. If you don’t see the radar bring down the console with the ~ key and
type “+showradar”. The dots show teammates on the same level say you,
the “T” shapes mean a team mate is above you and an upside down “T”
shape means a team mate is below you. If you know where your team is, and he
dies you know where the enemy is.
-
Stealth
If you are alone walk, don’t run unless
you’re absolutely positive the enemy is no where near you. You may want to
walk even when you’re in a group but it’s most important when you’re
alone. This way the enemy won’t hear where you are coming from. Be wise
about it though, you don’t want to be walking in an open area when there
are snipers around. (I.e. almost anywhere in jeepathon). Use shadows to your
advantage and if you feel you need it, silence your weapon if you can. (Colt
M4A1, or USP)
-
Stick
Together
Stay with your teammates! Even its just 2 of you together if you are
confronted with an enemy it’s going to be much harder for him to take on
both of you then it are 1 of you. Be reasonable though, you shouldn’t
bunch up in a crowded hallway, or doorway. When you’re closely packed
together you’re a good target for an HE Grenade.
-
Cover
Fire
If your bomb carrier is rushing for the bomb target that’s being guarded
then at least give him some cover fire, create a distraction, something.
This applies to bomb carriers, VIP, or just any teammate rushing into a
guarded area. Direct a few shots at the enemy then duck for cover and
repeat. Hopefully you’ll distract them long enough for your teammate to do
his job.
-
Be
Smart
Last, but not least be smart. By be smart, I don’t mean you need to be a
rocket scientist to play CS (that’s pretty obvious). What I mean is think
before you act. Don’t go running in a straight line at a guy with an AWP.
Strafe as you’re running at him so you make a harder target. Force him to
reload, and while he is reloading pounce on him.
Tips
-
Fools
rush in
Whatever you do DON’T go rushing in guns blazing, you’ll last a matter
of seconds. Dying is one thing that’s amazingly easy to do so stick with
the rest of your team and move as a single unit.
-
Heads
up
he player models in Counter-Strike are divided into various hit zones, with
easily the most effective area being the head. Yes it’s also the smallest
therefore hardest to hit but should you be successful you’re usually
looking at a one shot kill.
-
Guns
aren’t the only weapon
Don’t overlook the importance of other pieces of equipment such as the
grenades. These take a while to get used to but can be extremely effective.
Be careful when throwing a Flashbang. it’s easy to blind your own team
mates by mistake.
-
Play
the game
Remember, Counter-Strike isn’t a regular deathmatch game, focus on your
objective and work towards it instead of running around trying to engage
everyone as if you were playing a free for all.
-
Learn
from your mistakes
Did you get taken out by a sniper in a certain place last round? Well
don’t head back there the next round. People are creatures of habit and
the sniper might well try the same location next round so use this knowledge
to your advantage.
