Resume Writing This course would not require numerous weeks in duration. Its goal is to enable people to write an
effectively competitive resume. Curriculum- - To learn the Harvard Outline technique as a tool in organization. - To properly research dates. - To learn the meaning of power (action) words to describe job functions. - To learn the two most common resume formats. - To learn the difference between a profesional and personal recommendation and understanding the difference
between employment confirmation and recommendation. Recommended for all people. Everyone benefits from a resumé that stands out. If you are
just entering the workforce or are seeking new opportunities, This is the course for you! An effective resumé is also extremely helpful to students applying for college or employment. Beginner Class In Writing: This class is for people who recognize their need to improve their writing skills for work or school.
This course will be modified as assigned schedule requires. Curriculum- Basic composition, grammar and punctuation. - The benefits of outlining. - Creativity work habits. - Discussion of essays by Whitman and/or Mark Twain. - Essays will be written and shared with the group. - Essays will be evaluated with regard to main theme and theme development.
Creative Writing: Experienced writers know that the idea is just the beginning. They also know that there is a skill
or 'craft' to writing that not only reduces the number of but also results in a more effective first draft. This course is
for people who love to write. Its goal is to encourage creative individuality within the writing craft and to assist the participants
in beginning to discover their 'voice'. All areas of writing exercises will be part of
the course and will include nonfiction and fiction. Requirements: Working knowledge of grammar and spelling. Curriculum:-Review of basic composition as a tool for lengthier writing. -In class writing exercises that will include spontaneous writing to be shared with the group for discussion. These paragraph exercises will hone descriptive
language usage and observational skills. -How to avoid writing pitfalls such as clichés and overly descriptive language. -When to and when not to follow the rules of grammar as a tool for
effective writing. -What 'poetic license' is and its benefits. -Writing for your audience. Poetry Writing: Requirement: The serious poet at heart. - The history and evolution of poetry. - The Petrarchan (or Italian) sonnet, the Shakespearean sonnet, free verse, Haiku and Rengé. - The pathology of the poem: the poetic line, rhymes, internal rhyme schemes will be reviewed. - The work of modern poets such as Langston Hughes, Countee Cullen, e.e. cummings will be analyzed for rhythm and language usage. - How to recite your poem: reading your poetry successfully is essential to presentation and is a skill that is easily learned.
