Seeking Employment

Introduction | The Task | Resources | The Process | Learning Advice | Conclusion

Introduction

Your mother has been after you to get a job or she will send you floating down the Nile.  Since you love to travel, you have looked into working on the royal barge but there are no positions at this time. You are faced with the possibility of having to work in the stone yards cutting and hauling the stones for the building of the great pyramids.  There are always openings in the stone yard; the death rate is high.  Ah! Theres a thought. Perhaps the priest is looking for an assistant to help with mummification.

The Task

You are to write a resume showing that you are knowledgeable and worthy of the being the priest assistant. You want to impress the priest with your knowledge of the mummification and your ability as a scribe and artist

  • In Word, create the stationary for your resume.
  • Add 1 graphic from Microsoft clipart gallery
  • Add an original work of art created in Paint.
  • State 3 interesting facts about mummification
  • Create a word search puzzle with 6 or more new vocabulary words to show your cleverness.
  • Create a cartouche of your name and copy it to your resume.

Resources

These resources will help you create a good impression on the priest.

The Process

Create stationary to use to submit your resume to the priest.

  1. Use your graphics and paint program to personalize the stationary.
  2. Read from several of the funerary sites to discover the process used to mummify bodies.
  3. Make a note of words you want to add to the vocabulary list.
  4. List your facts.
  5. Create a word search using PuzzlerMaker .
  6. Dont forget to print out the answer sheet.
  7. Sign your resume with a copy of your personal cartouche.

Learning Advice

An entire photo or drawing may be used but no more than 5 images from the same artist, or when from a published collective work not more than 10% or 15 images, whichever is less.

Give credit where credit is due. Advise students to keep a list of the sources.  They can make a bibliography page at EasyBib

http://www.easybib.com/  .

Conclusion

Rubrics can be created online and posted with the assignment so that students know what is expected and what the teacher values based on the distribution of points.

A good resource for an online rubric is Rubistar.  http://rubistar.4teachers.org/
