PowerPoint Workshop
 
During this workshop, participants will learn
  • basic vocabulary
  • how to create a PowerPoint slide show
  • how to hyperlink a slide

Vocabulary
 
Animate:  A simulation of movement created by displaying a series of pictures, or frames.

Animated GIF: A type of GIF image that can be animated by combining several images into a single GIF file.
 
Hyperlink: An element in an electronic document that links to another place in the same document or to an entirely different document.
 
Object: Any element that appears on a PowerPoint slide, such as clip art, text, drawings, charts, sounds, and video clips. You can refer to a clip art object, a text object, a title object, a drawing object, etc.

Presentation File: The file you save to disk that contains all the slides, speaker's notes, handouts, etc. that make up your presentation.
 
Slide: An individual screen in a slide show
 
Slide Show: A series of slides displayed in sequence. A slide show can be controlled manually or automatically.
 
Transition: Special effect between slides such as fade, iris in, iris out, etc.

Host Classroom Game Shows with Powerpoint:  Download templates for the games shows -- Jeopardy, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Hollywood Squares, The Weakest Link -- to create game shows for your curriculum.  You will need program to open the software once you have downloaded it.  Use the link provided on the site or do a search for "UnStuffit".

Presenters University:  This site has business and educational templates that you can download for free... and some to purchase.  The articles are usually slanted toward business but often the same principles apply in the classroom. Sometimes education is a hard-sell job!   You may need to register to download from certain areas, but the site is safe and doesn't SPAM.
 
Assignment:
 
1. Create a lesson plan which incorporates presentation software. (Students create the PowerPoint.)
 
2. Create a PowerPoint that is appropriate for your curriculum or that you would use at a professional presentation (You could add to the one we started in class).  Print slides 6 per page.
 
       Minimum:
  • 6 slides
  • 2 graphics or charts or photographs
  • Include at least one hyperlink either to a slide in the presentation or a site on the Internet or a document in your file.
  • 1 animation
  • 1 transition
