Flat Tax for Canada

By

James Bredin

When did a politician show incentive or brains?

Slaves to their party -- disciplined and in chains,

The most taxed and overtaxed people in the globe,

While Canadian politicians in scandal probe.

No tax reform from political party nerds,

Not on the agenda of those in lock-step herds,

Party discipline -- political gobbledygook,

Stay out of the adscam scandal by hook or by crook.

And flat tax is a notion too complex for them,

It’s the party -- not the people and sing the anthem,

They’re not into equality tax arrangements,

As they avoid this like the plague to our amazement.

They prefer the status quo tax loopholes everywhere,

Opaque nightmare too complicated to compare,

Where their friends have their money hidden overseas,

Where friendly tax auditors charge enormous fees.

These Ottawa socialists have special-interest friends,

Too busy at the moment to look at the trends,

The number of countries that already have flat tax,

And more all the time but these are only the facts.

We need a leader – not a politician up there,

-- Not some scandal plagued minister in despair,

Advantages of the single tax rate are numerous,

It’s been done and this is not something humorous.

Known to have positive impact on revenue,

But they’re bound to the status quo and want no review,

Socialists and communists not much into change,

Wait for the US to do it and then arrange.

Tax simplification not on their agenda,

Pumping out adscam political propaganda,

Avoid heated debate and numbers like the plague,

Democracy too – you just lie and be vague

More Advice for Stephen Harper

By

James Bredin

Stephen Harper, I’m sure you’ve heard of referendums

Or recall or term limits and their ultimatums,

So mention the adscam hidden foundations,

Propose proportional representation.

Can’t plod no more like Joe Clark or Preston and bore,

We have Internet now and some of us know the score,

We need triple E Senate and Ottawa free votes,

Not that communism that the adscam guys promote.

Print off this poem and write down your agenda,

Write a contract for Canada – not propaganda,

Watch out for a Belinda type stab in the back,

Be first out the gate and lead the adscam pack.

Claim that you are here to change the system around,

Not a Red Book or Shawinigate confound,

No more missing billions or HRDC stuff,

Canadian people have had just about enough.

No more partisan appointments to the High Court,

Their same-sex and two-tier-health care report,

Questions asked before appointee decision,

It’s democracy – not special-interest revisions.

Emphasize democracy – not fancy dancing,

Around donations from foundations for financing,

Or envelopes full of money being passed around,

Make us feel better because this is profound.

Canadian Contract for the People

By

James Bredin

Can Canadian politicians even write a contract?

Or are they afraid there might be a controversial impact?

A contract with the people to show politicians might care,

And they’ll do something about the adscam status quo despair.

So we the downtrodden people might know what to expect,

Not more crooks, fraud freeloaders and the country wrecked,

With envelopes full of money and more propaganda,

Where we should straighten up, fall in line and get on their agenda.

To show that adscam politicians are not above the law,
And we are not completely stuck in their status quo blah blah,

And that honesty in government might really prevail,

And it’s not just pompous propaganda from behind their veil.

Why is all this so very difficult for our politicians?

As they pass the time in various useless commissions,

Convinced that they are doing something important and on call,

When in actual fact they are doing nothing at all.

They do it; because they can, and they control the media,

Propaganda with every phrase in the encyclopaedia,

And they never mention the word “contract” in any “news” release,

Appoint some senators and judges and give themselves an increase.

Stephen Harper: where do you stand?

By

James Bredin

Stephen Harper: please tell me where do you stand?

Are you right, left or in the middle of this land?

Sometimes I’m confused by the waffle words I get,

I don’t like to wonder and after words fret.

Flimflam is in, I know, by the adscam crowd,

They feel so anti-American and so proud,

At least one of them has an IQ above ten,

The gray area – not matter -- is theirs again and again.

It’s obvious the adscam Liberals are all wrong,

And long ago should have sang their swan song,

You need guts like Mike Harris if you know what I mean,

But so far I’m very confused by what I’ve seen.

Your chance of more MPs is Ontario and now,

Not convention Montreal where you took the bow,

Take a stand and make us feel proud of the party,

Or those crooks will rule forever, my hearty.

Think referendums, recall the Senate and more,

Proportional representation might score,

Term limits too and let the Liberals watch,

They need the proverbial kick in the crotch.

The Liberals may call an election soon,

Could be your chance, your one big opportune,

They are completely stuck in the status quo,

And unless you too come unstuck we won’t grow
