URGENT appeal for "cover CDs" and "promotional" CD-ROMs !

Many computer magazines are sold nowadays with so-called "cover CDs" often containing valuable shareware, freeware and/or for promotional purposes full packages of commercial software (just the previous version to inform customers in-depth about the product and to offer them an incentive to buy the latest version).

For our purposes the latest versions are mostly not required - we would like you to check out your collected CD treasures gathered over the last 7 to 10 years and send us all those which you don't need anymore. This allows us to build up a large software library (also in many major languages).

Whether you have one or dozens of "cover CDs" - please e-mail us and we let you know where to send them. Everything is needed from DOS/Win 3.1 programs to Win95, 98, ME, 2000 and Win XP, but also for the APPLE and LINUX.

Please check out these old magazines, boxes and plastic bags - your old "stuff" could contribute a lot to the education of a student somewhere in the world.  Please e-mail us now:    tbsc@usa.com   Thank you !

TBSC CONSULTING  is the non-commercial division of a software development house / business consultancy for small / medium sized enterprises and individual computer users.

For philantropic reasons we will offer our own products, our "know how" and our professional experience absolutely FREE on a case to case basis over the Internet to individuals, small businesses, educational institutions (esp. those with a practical vocational focus) in  "developing" countries  and in "disadvantaged" regions. This is not restricted to the Pacific Rim Region.

We don't throw away tools still useful, books, older cars, vans and machinery still working. Then why are we throwing away software and other intellectual goods which have taken so long to develop.

The value of an old floppy disk might not even be one cent - the educational value of the old DOS based word processor, spreadsheet or database application on it can make the difference to a whole class room somewhere in the middle of nowhere!

Worth thinking about it !

Sometimes we can't hear anymore the permanent lamenting by politicians etc. about the "digital divide" and what can be done to overcome it.

Let's actually do something about it !

What we have in mind is a kind of "exchange"  for older (licensed) software and computer equipment  ...

Going through the archives of companies, schools etc. we always find heaps of software (often older versions but licensed), sometimes new and in the original packaging. The hardware technology used has made them obsolete - but there are tens of thousands of schools out there in the world who would be more than happy to have even an older copy of a spreadsheet software like Lotus 1-2-3 or a database package like dBASE III +  etc.

How can it work in practice ?

MOST IMPORTANT !

PLEASE make the web site known world-wide ! YES, you too - it doesn't cost you anything to distribute our URL to friends, colleagues and institutions you know. And if you are a school principal then please have a look in the cupboards what "old stuff" there is which your school doesn't use anyway !

PLEASE send us also an e-mail to:  tbsc@usa.com   with your request / offer.

From the Guest Book we will then take the necessary information and put it onto the following pages:

 Software offered ...
 Hardware offered ...
 Other Services offered ...

 Software wanted ...
 Hardware wanted ...
 Other Services wanted ...

This will allow in most cases that the prospective partners can get in touch with each other without the need that we are facilitating.

Depending on the specific demands we put in our part and research the Internet and/or our software archives for additional information regarding the subject / item (which we then put on one of our resources pages). To give you an example: if there is a lot of demand for database products, and esp. XBase related products, then we add also our "know-how" / experience to this web site for everyone who needs it. See our resource page:

                                                                   Database Resources

where we have added some of our tools we have used and/or are still using.

Getting software by mail from the UK to a remote school in MALAWI or to KIRIBATI in the Pacific Ocean is a small problem, not to mention the postage esp. for the manuals.

But it can be done by e-mail. The software can be transferred as attachment, the necessary documentation can be scanned and  the license can be transferred this way to the new owner. Probably no one will send the manuals by "snail" mail, but for most packages there is sufficient material on the web that can be downloaded. And we will do our part too to help with resources.

It all comes a little bit down to facilitating these things - it should not be too hard  ....

It can be done !

We are also calling on the BIG players in the computer software industry:

BORLAND, MICROSOFT, COMPUTER ASSOCIATES, IBM / LOTUS and all the others.

We are interested to facilitate the distribution of older software packages which are NO longer sold by you on the markets and DON'T contribute anymore to your margins. If your company is serious about getting future customers in parts of the world which are disadvantaged today then please give us the chance to distribute legal copies of your older products via this site.

This would really contribute to overcome the so-called "digital divide" !

[ If your company is willing to ship older software packages incl. the manuals to those who need them somewhere - eg. in the middle of Africa - that's appreciated. On the other hand: mostly it would be sufficient to have one copy on our web site which can be downloaded by those who request it. Or you can keep them on your web site, and give those people access to download the software which you consider worthy enough from going through our guestbook and pages (just use a password). ]

These were some of the basic ideas  ...

... we all can help him (and many others) to advance from here  ...

by getting some skills - esp. some basic computer skills.
Having access to resources on the Internet is one of the keys for his future, whatever the future profession will be.

   .

We believe it is possible to achieve this for everyone by utilizing FREE resources which are available in abundance on the Internet. Even if the recipient of the resources has NO Internet access at this stage and only some older equipment  ....

...  they all can have a future and take part in a modern world.
