When we first saw Damar in the fourth season episode "Return to Grace", he was just a Glinn on the Cardassian freighter Groumal. This is where he met up with Gul Dukat and his career took off straight to the top!

Young and handsome, with a typically Cardassian personality and ever present sneer, Legate Damar is now the leader of Cardassia all thanks to his association with and loyalty to Gul Dukat. He was at Dukat's side all during their times aboard the captured Klingon Bird of Prey, through the negotiation with the Dominion and finally during the retaking of Terok Nor. It was Damar who ultimately found a way to diable the mines at the mouth of the wormhole. Glinn Damar had been a loyal and faithful officer to Gul Dukat and Cardassia.

Then the incident that changed the course of Cardassian history! Finding Ziyal's treachery intolerable, Damar Shot her right in front of her father Dukat. Whether he knew the consequences of his actions or not is up for debate. But Dukat's resulting madness as a result of her death paved the way for Damar's unpresidented rise to lead Cardassia along side the Dominion in the war with the Federation.

But our hero is not without his flaws not the least of which is his loyalty to a dangerously unstable Dukat. He also tends to drink too much and is rarely without his ever present class of kanar. He also has an unhealthy disrespect for the Vorta clone, Weyoun, though you'll be hard pressed to prove that he actually had anything to do with the transporter accident that killed Weyoun 5. He didn't have anything to do with Weyoun 7's demise either but found it very amusing when an angry Worf snapped the vorta's neck. And then to make absolutly sure that there would be no more Weyouns after number 8, he distroyed the cloning facility as his first act of rebellion against the Dominion. Unfortunately Damar didn't have the honor of dispatching Weyoun 8. That went to Garak.

But above all else, Damar is a fiercely loyal Cardassian and his people know that. So when the Dominion began making deals with their new Breen allies that didn't benifit Cardassia, Damar broke away taking as many loyal officers as he could. A move that cost him the lives of his wife and son. And that is where the Dominion made their biggest mistake! With his family lost, Damar had no reason to return to the Dominion and he soon became a legendary hero to the people. Even the Cardassian military fleet turned against the Dominion in the final assault. But freedom for Cardassia came at a high cost. So obsessed were the Founders to put an end to Damar, that they laid waste to the planet. Eight hundred million Cardassians killed, the cities in ruin. This was the Dominion's second mistake. So preoccupied were they with the distruction of Cardassian cities in an attempt to kill Damar, they didn't leave enough Jem'Hadar behind to defend the Founder.

Damar died a hero of Cardassia in the attack on the female Founder and Weyoun 8. But his legacy will live on!
