Northern Darfur, Sudan -- Thirteen and light-voiced, Ilham Isaak Abakker Abdullah wears a pink dress and scarf and hasn't shown her face in weeks.
"In the evening, the Janjaweed attacked Um Dirasay (a tiny village near Funu in Northern Darfur). The area was full of crying from every direction and shooting all over," she said, as a friend translated her words from her native Zarawa language to English. "I saw many people killed. Then I was grabbed by two men on horses wearing Sudanese army uniforms."

Oh by the way The United States called on the United Nations to impose an arms embargo and travel ban on the Arab militias in a draft resolution submitted Wednesday to coincide with a visit to Darfur by Secretary of State Colin Powell. Powell presented the Sudanese government with a timetable to implement its promises to disarm the militias, lift restrictions on humanitarian workers and negotiate a settlement to the 16-month uprising.
