Jonathan Butterell
Devisor and Director
Jonathan Butterell has worked at the
Donmar Wareouse as Co-Director and
Choreographer on Into the Woods;
as Movement Director for How I Learned to Drive,
Electra (also for the
Chichester Festival, McCarter Theatre/Princeton and Broadway),
The Maids and Habeas
Corpus. He was Choreographer for the London premiere of
Nine (nominated for an
Olivier Award for Best Musical), and undertook the Musical
Staging for Company (which
moved to the Alberry).
His other theatre credits include Fair
Ladies at a Game of Poem Cards and Othello for
the Royal National Theatre (also world
tour); Passion (which starred Michael Ball) at
the Queen's Theatre; Six
Characters in Search of an Author at the Abbey Theatre,
Dublin; Double Helix
at the Peacock, Dublin, and Sweeney Todd for Opera North.
This production is currently touring
the UK, including a fortnight's run at Sadler's
Wells.
More recent work includes a workshop
of Wise Guys with Stephen Sondheim and
John Weidman at the New York Theatre
Workshop; Orpheus Descending and
Strindberg's Creditors for the Theatre
Project Tokyo; Hamlet for the RSC and George
Stiles' and Anthony Drew's Peter
Pan at the Royal Festival Hall.
