You can make many things in Runescape with the crafting skill. Jewels, amulets, leather items, glass items and many more. To make these items, you usually start with some raw material to craft. Gold, silver, clay, leather etc. Crafting also uses many tools, like moulds, chisels, glassblowing pipes etc. You also use equipment like furnaces (smelter), pottery ovens, spinning wheels, etc. And finally, you need some merchants to buy your wares. They can be found on the world map.
Lots of these items can be found from the Crafting Guild, which is located south-west from Falador. You can also buy many things from a crafting shop. You can find one in Al Kharid run by Dommik or in Rimmington run by Rommik. They can be found on the world map.
Pottery
Pottery is the art of making items from clay. You can make pots, pie dishs or bowls. However, this is not good way to make money.
1. First you need clay which can be mined from clay rocks. You don't need any mining experience to do this.
2. Next you need water. Mix it with clay to make soft, workable clay. Do this by "using" the clay with water by clicking your mouse on either the clay or the water, then clicking again on the other item.
3. Use soft clay with a potter's wheel. Choose what you want to make, a pie dish, a pot or a bowl. Potter's wheels can be found in the Crafting Guild and the Barbarian Village.
4. The last thing you need to do is to put the unfired item into a pottery oven. It's possible that the item cracks while in the oven, but as your levels grow, it happens less often.
Leather
You can make three different leather items, which are gloves, boots and leather armor. You can wear all of them and they will raise your armor points a bit. Making leather armor is an easy way to get crafting experience.
1. To get leather, you need to kill a cow for it's hide and take the hide to a Tanner. Tanners can be found in Al Kharid and at the Crafting Guild. You need to pay one coin to the Tanner for each leather he makes. Cows can be found around Lumbridge, the Crafting Guild, and at Zanaris. (bears and wolves also drop hides, but cannot be used for crafting at this time.)
2. Get yourself a needle and some thread. You can buy them from the crafting store in Al Kharid or Rimmington. Use the needle with the leather and choose which option: armor, gloves or boots. With one thread, you can make five leather items.
Spinning
Flax is for members only
You can spin wool and flax with a spinning wheel to make yarn. Simply "use" the wool or flax with the spinning wheel to spin into thread. Wool will yield a ball of wool, which can be used to add strings amulets or holy symbols. Flax can be spun into bow strings.
Sheep for wool can be found around Lumbridge or at the Crafting Guild. Spinning wheels can be found in Lumbridge Castle, in the top floor of the southern tower, the Crafting Guild, Seer's Village, and in Falador.
For wool, you need to shear a sheep with shears. Shears can be bought from general stores. Simply "use" the shears with the sheep. Flax can be found south-east from Seer's village, just west of Catherby. Just pick flax plant to get flax into your inventory.
Cutting gems
Opals, jades, red topazes and dragonstones are for members only
To cut a gem, you need to "use" a chisel with a gem. Gems are dropped by many monsters, mined from rocks, found inside of caskets, or bought from a gem store in Falador, Ardougne or Al Kharid, or stolen from the gem stall in Ardougne. Except for dragonstones, which can be found only in the crystal key chest in Taverley. There are eight different gems in Runescape, sapphires, emeralds, rubys, diamonds, dragonstone, opal, jade and red topaz. Chisels can be bought for one gold in general stores, crafting stores or in the Crafting Guild. Opals, jade and red topaz can be destroyed in the cutting progress.
Jewels and amulets
Dragonstone amulets are for members only
Jewels and amulets are made from gold or silver bars. You can make rings, necklaces and amulets. Amulets can be enchanted with spells, so they add points to your equipment stats. Making these is a very good way to make money. You can sell jewels to Grum in Port Sarim, and amulets to Davon in south-east Brimhaven.
1. "Use" a gold or silver bar with a furnace (smelting). See the Smithing Guide for more info about making bars. A menu will pop up.
2. Choose an option from the menu. If you are melting gold, you can choose a ring, a necklace, an amulet or nothing. If you are melting silver, you can choose a Holy Symbol or nothing. You have a mold for each item that you want to make in your inventory. Moulds can be bought from the crafting store in Rimmington or Al Kharid for one gold.
3. If you are making gold items, you can also add a gem to them. Just click "yes" on the menu if you want to add a gem or "no" if you want just a plain gold item. Remember that gems cannot be added to plain gold items.
4. If you decided to add a gem, choose which one would you like to add. Saphire, emerald, ruby, diamond or dragonstone. Dragonstones can be added only to amulets. You must carry the gem, you chose, in your inventory and it must be already cut.
5. If you made amulet or Holy Symbol of Saradomin, you can enchant it. Amulets can be enchanted with spells and Holy Symbols can be enchanted at the Clerics Guild at the Monestery northwest of the Barbarian Village. Before you can do that you must add a string to the amulet or symbol.
Glassblowing
Members only
There are two good places for making glass- Entrana and Zanaris. You can find everything, you need for making glass at these two places, except that you can't get seaweed at Zanaris. You can make three kinds of items, beer glasses, vials and orbs.
1. You need two ingredients to make glass. Sand and soda ash. Sand can be found from a sand pit. Just use bucket with the sand pit to get sand. Sand pits can be found at Zanaris, Yanille and Entrana. To get soda ash, you need to burn seaweed on a range. Seaweed can be found north-west of Entrana or you can get them with a big net, when fishing.
2. "Use" sand or soda ash with a furnace to mix them and melt them into molten glass.
3. Now use a glassblowing pipe with the molten glass and choose which item you want to make, vial, orb or beer glass.
