Things certainly took off to a quick start as Lauren met
Guber in the hallway before school. She had worked out in the morning and
just taken a shower afterwards. Guber leaned close to her and commenced to
sniff her still-wet hair. (I'm sure Harry wouldn't approve!) Lauren turned
and told him quite abruptly, "Please don't smell me!" The
Hostage
An armed robbery had taken place just down the street
from the school before classes started in the morning, and the police
came into the building looking for the suspect who had been
wearing a Winslow High jacket and was last seen headed in the direction of the
school. The administrators are informed that the suspect fatally shot a man,
and that he could be identified by the hand he damaged in a
car door as he made his escape. The police want to start searching the building's
non-academic rooms and Harper gets them to agree to do the search using
his teachers and plainclothes police officers to in order to avoid alarming students.
He then has all the classrooms put on lockdown. While all the non-academic rooms were being secured the
eyewitness to the robbery sat in the school's office and searched through the yearbooks trying to pinpoint the
suspect.
She fingered him as Phillip Roberson in Marla/Harvey's
class, (currently occupied by only Marla as Harvey has been told to stay
out of the way). A SWAT team sets up
outside Marla's room, but Harper insists that there will be no shooting
into the room. Harper sends Lipschultz into the classroom to let Marla
know that the suspect is Roberson, whom the police grab as he files out
the door after the other students. He screams "It isn't me!"
and Harper, not certain the boy isn't telling the truth, questions him and
finds that the young man's story checks out. Lauren, who is also in lockdown status, notices
blood on the floor next to a student and upon checking his hand finds
it damaged. She knows it's the real killer and tries to send a note
to the "nurse" aka Harper about the location of the suspect but he jumps up and
intercepts it. He pulls out his gun and holds the class hostage.
He tells Lauren that he wants Harper, so she sends a student after him. When
Harper comes in, the distraught gunman grabs Lauren and holds her hostage. Marilyn
goes down to the dungeon to alert Harry to the situation, and he bolts out of the room. He
bursts into Lauren's room and attempts to talk the gun away from the
suspect, a student whom he's taught before and fortunately has a rapport
with. Suddenly, as
Harry is negotiating, a police radio chirps and catches Neil's attention.
Harry uses the chance to jump at Neil and wrestle the gun away.
Lauren quickly escapes and Harry throws her assailant to the floor. The
police collect Neil and Harry saves his gal!
Lipschultz vs. Guber FIGHT!
When Lipschultz hears that there's a shooting suspect in
the school he coolly asks if he's black. Guber sends him to the
office and tells him not to come out or he will lose his job. Guber
is afraid that Lipschultz may slip and say something in class that will
alarm the students. Harper asks for Lipschultz to deliver a message
to Marla to inform her that they think she has the suspect in her room. Guber is beside
himself over Harvey participating in such a dangerous scenario. When it's all said and done they meet again in the office
and Guber calls Harvey a bigot and tells him he will make it his mission
to get him discharged. Harvey replies, "You want a war, you got
one!"
The Milton and Lisa Dilemma
Lisa meets Milton at school in the morning and asks him
to come with her to a secret room in the basement during their free first
period. He meets her there sees that she has romantically surrounded
a couch with a great many lit candles.
During the search of the school Coach Riley, accompanied
by an officer, find Milton and Lisa in the basement. Milton has no
idea what's going on elsewhere in the school and starts exclaiming
"She's 18!" Riley sends Milton and Lisa to the teacher's
room. Milton tries to explain to Coach that he loves Lisa and
asks him to keep the affair a secret. Coach tries to explain to
Milton how crazy it all is and how Milton could lose his job over it. Buttle
is swayed and decides to break it off with Lisa later on. After telling
her it's over, he talks with Kevin again and begins wondering if maybe he shouldn't
dump his career and just keep Lisa. Kevin tries to talk him out of
this line of thinking. While he's doing so Louisa steps into the
room, overhears the conversation, and then turns to leave in disgust. Milton
goes to the office and tries to explain himself but she tells him to get out of
her life. While they're talking Lipschultz overhears their
conversation. By the end of the episode Milton and Lisa are back at
his house talking about their future meetings.
Some Thoughts on Harry and Lauren
Harry and Lauren plan a date for the
evening, (dancing, Harry's favorite!) They seem to be getting along very well, like a couple that
may last awhile. Now that Harry has saved her life, it seems that
they may be a solid commodity. |
