Milton Buttle Plotline:

Episode 1 Episode 2 Episode 3 Episode 4
Milton is the first victim of Sheryl Holt's Web site.  He is depicted being shot out of a horse's behind.  He takes offense to the cartoon and brings it to Harper's attention.  Harper can do little about it, but Milton continues to be incensed.

--No plotline for Milton in this episode.--

Episode 5 Episode 6 Episode 7 Episode 8
Milton is upset about the portrayal of Louisa and himself on the Holt website.  It shows Louisa walking him on a leash.  He is a dog who meets Harper, another dog, who urinates on him.  He is having trouble dealing with it and snaps at everyone.  He also can't manage to be nice to Louisa who actually likes him.  Fortunately he and Louisa kiss at Lauren's Thanksgiving dinner and things begin to look up for the wimpy English teacher. --No Major plotlines for Milton in episode 6-- My man Milton accepts a date with the secretary, Louisa, then promptly meets a Harvard student who has similar interests.  He falls for the younger woman and ditches Louisa, (yeah, what a stupid move).  He skips class several times to meet with he girl and take her to his place for a little "nudge, nudge, know what I mean".

He lies to Vice Principal Guber about his whereabouts and claims car problems.  Guber threatens Milton with dismissal and I wonder if Guber isn't onto him a bit.  Well, by the end of the episode, the Harvard girl meets Buttle at school and reveals that she is actually a high school senior there at Winslow High!  Yikes!

Episode 9 Episode 10 Episode 11 Episode 12
Lisa meets Milton at school and tells him of a secret meeting place in the basement of the school.  He meets her there during his free first period.  While they are down there the school is being searched for the student gunman.  Coach Riley finds Lisa and Milton during his search of the school.  Milton doesn't know what the search is all about and starts yelling, "She's 18, she's 18!"  Kevin sends them both to the teacher's lounge.  Kevin tries to talk some sense into Milton about this whole affair.  While they're talking Louisa overhears them.  Milton chases after her to explain but she'll ahve no part of it.  Milton finally decides that he should break off the relationship.  He later regrets his decision and wonders aloud to Kevin if maybe Lisa is worth throwing away his career.  (Yeah right).  That night Lisa and Milton meet at  his house and resume their tawdry affair. Milton is very concerned over the Holt website depicting him and Lisa.  Lisa is also frantic and he wants her to transfer.  After much discussion he wants to end it to protect himself, but she disagrees.  When Harper talks with her parents, the father agrees to watch his daughter closely.  Milton meets Lisa once more at his house to break it off and engages in one more kiss which becomes one  more time and her father walks in.  Once all the information comes out Guber asks for Milton's resignation which he signs reluctantly, quite possibly ending his role on the show.  We'll see what happens next week!

Our Thoughts on Milton:
Tim's thoughts:

Can I just say, "What the heck was he thinking?!"  There is no way a dedicated, committed teacher would take off and leave his school responsibilities to have an affair then show up late and lie about where he was to the vice principal.

I like Milton overall, but I don't buy the way he skips class.  As the series go on I hope to see Milton grow a little more and become an integral part of the program.  I also hope he can make amends with Louisa.

Addendum--1/9/01--Break it off Milton, and save a little face!

Jen's Thoughts:

I think Milton is a bit wishy-washy.  He doesn't know how to handle the students, and really takes it to heart that they think poorly of him.  And knowing that he does causes the students to go after him even more.

I never really saw Louisa and Milton as an 'ideal' couple.  (Personally I can see her with Kevin, but that's just me I guess.) Still, I don't think he ought to have dumped Louisa for Lisa the way he did.  And if he is really this serious about his young lady, he ought to have met with her parents to get their blessing.
