thoughts:
Well, Marla may
seem a bit nuts at times, but I think she makes a lot of sense
too. She has that common sense/street smart sort of
intelligence. She is often at odds with Harvey, and with
his off the wall ideas playing opposite her, she sometimes
looks like a genius. The idea that she needs medication
to control her depression will probably come into play more as
the series progresses. The fact that she wrote
"I've gone to kill myself. Hope you're happy"
on the blackboard doesn't make her crazy, it just illustrates
the frustration teachers face everyday.
I like her
frankness, I think putting her with Harvey was a
great idea and I hope she gets more air time in the future.

Thoughts:
Marla's character is one of my favorite parts
of this show. I love her snappy come-backs, and the way
she interacts with Harvey in the classroom. If I were to
choose one of the Winslow High faculty as a teaching mentor it
would probably be her. She has a high-energy way of
teaching her classes that really keeps the students' attention
engaged. In the future I'd like to see her dealing
one-on-one with a troubled student to see how she handles
it.. And I'd also like to see more of her personal life
outside the school. |
