Aus Mags
This week's NW has a small bit on 2001 TV shows, with a paragraph on The X-Files . They also had an advert for a special magazine called The NW Ultimate TV Guide for 2001 (released today) that has a small pic of Robert Patrick on the cover and an article on the new season of The X-Files. TV Week had a video review of Return To Me with a small pic of the video cover. They only gave it 2 stars. TV Week also had The Essential X-Files (episode not named) listed as screening on February 7. There are photos of Gillian Anderson at the Golden Globe awards in both Woman's Day and NW respectively. There is a short review of The Family Man in the current issue of B magazine.
Thanx to Winnie and Lucy for most of that news.

Season 8 Promo
If you haven't yet caught the season 8 promo on channel 10, Lyle has archived it at http://members.nbci.com/ausxf/withintrailer/video.html. There's also a page of screen grabs at http://members.nbci.com/ausxf/withintrailer/images.html.

Lunch With Nic Lea
From Leigh at www.nicklea.com, news that Nic Lea stars in a new romantic comedy called Lunch With Charles. The movie stars Hong Kong actors Lau Ching Wan and Theresa Lee, as well as rock star Bif Naked. It was released in Canada earlier this week. There is an Official Site for the movie.

SAG Awards
Gillian Anderson has been nominated for Best Actress in a Drama Series in the Screen Actors Guild awards. Other nominees are Edie Falco - The Sopranos, Sally Field - ER, Lauren Graham - Gilmore Girls, Allison Janney - The West Wing and Sela Ward - Once and Again. Surprisingly, despite all the rave reviews and Oscar talk that's been around she wasn't nominated as best actress in a movie for House of Mirth.

That 70's Show
On tonight's episode of That 70's Show, "Grandma's Dead", Pat Skipper (Bill Scully, Dana's brother) is one of the guest stars. Mitch Pileggi is guest on next Sunday's episode "The Good Son". Channel 7 really screwed with the programming, so it's now unknown when the ep. will air. BTW, you can see Pat Skipper in a small role in Erin Brockovitch, a current video release.

The Lone Gunmen
There's a story on new shows for 2001 in todays' Sun-Herald TV Guide liftout and The Lone Gunmen show is mentioned.

The Family Man competition
Sydney residents can win one of 100 double passes to see The Family Man, starring Tea Leoni, by calling 1900 969 453 and leaving your name and address. Competition closes midnight tomorrow.

Also, last week's Sunday Telegraph had a 3-page story devoted to The Family Man, including a half-page on Tea Leoni including a pic.

The One
Here's the latest news from former X-Files team Glen Morgan and James Wong:
HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Delroy Lindo (Gone in 60 Seconds) and Jason Statham (Snatch) have signed on as co-leads opposite Jet Li in The One, a $48 million action/sci-fi thriller set to go before cameras January 29 in Los Angeles.

The Revolution Studios picture rests on the premise that there are multiple universes with people similiar to us in each of them. Lindo plays an agent whose responsibility is to ensure that people don't traverse these universes. Statham will play Lindo's partner. Both patrol the universes to prevent a renegade Jet Li from attempting to kill all of the other people like himself.

Lindo and Li previously co-starred in Romeo Must Die.

James Wong will direct from a screenplay he co-wrote with Glen Morgan. It is set for a US release on August 10.

Requiem Video
From www.vidzofoz.com.au news that the Requiem video won't be released until March 21 .... After many delays and various rumoured dates, this one I'll believe because they even quote the tape's serial number.

Birthday Call
Happy birthday to Mimi Rogers (Diana Fowley) who turns 45 today.

More Family Man coverage
Yesterday's Courier Mail had a half page article on Tea Leoni with a photo and is mainly about her movie The Family Man. She mentioned that if she had not been offered a role in this movie she would have remained a stay at home mother forever. The article mentioned that she and David Duchovny hope to have more children but are happy being a trio with Madelaine for now.

Also the suburban paper Northern News (only available in some northern suburbs of Brisbane) has a brief article on The Family Man with a photo of Tea Leoni and Nicolas Cage.

ThanX Lucy.

Magazines
This week's NW has a 2 page article on Tea Leoni; plus her movie The Family Man is NW's Movie of the Week with a full page devoted to it and it gets a 4 star rating. The February Video Ezy catalogue is now out and there is a page review of Return to Me with a photo of Minnie Driver and the photo of the video cover. Also on the inside back cover there is a photo of David Duchovny and Minnie Driver along with a competition where the first prize is a trip for 2 to Rome. 10 runners up will receive 2 dozen roses and a video copy of Return to Me. The competition starts February 7 and ends March 9.

A UK magazine is now available locally, simply titled DVD and it has Gillian Anderson on the cover and a 2 page article on The X-Files series 1 DVD set which gets a 5 star rating. The November Ultimate DVD magazine had a one page article on Morgan/Wong's Final Destination.

In the Brisbane Sunday Mail TV Scene liftout magazine there is the following paragraph:
A new agent is joining The X Files team. Annabeth Gish, 29, who co-starred with Julia Roberts in the 1988 movie Mystic Pizza, will team up with agents Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) and John Doggett (Robert Patrick) for three episodes, with a view to becoming a show regular. David Duchovny, who will return to the set in February for his guest appearances as Agent Fox Mulder, revealed that Gish might be the long term replacement if/when Anderson decides to quit the show.
ThanX Lucy.

The Others
That missing The Others episode (see below) starring Darin Morgan aired on channel 9 last night.

Season 2 DVD
Nuff Zed has told me that The X-Files season 2 DVD release has been pushed back a week to February 14.

However, I subsequently checked the www.ezydvd.com.au site and it says the release has now been pushed back to April 20 : (

Aus News
Further to Friday's news below, also in this week's Who Weekly is a short snippet on The Lone Gunmen series announcing that it will be shown on Channel 7 this year. On the Channel 10 Message Board is news that Channel 7 has also bought the rights to The X Files Movie which will be screened in 2001. I actually glimpsed a channel 7 promo a few weeks back and thought I saw David Duchovny, so it must have been! Channel 7 also screened the ill-fated Harsh Realm as they won the rights to all the new Fox programs a few years back. Fox programs already screening, like The X-Files and The Simpsons, stayed where they were.

The November UK magazine Ultimate DVD has a 2 page article about the series 1 X Files DVD set.

ThanX Lucy.

Channel 10 has started showing The X-Files season 8 promos : -)

VCR Alert
Australian audiences yet to see Robert Patrick as Agent Doggett in The X-Files, can see him in an earlier starring role, the 1993 movie Body Shot, screening at 11:50pm tonight on Ten.

Pathogen Unknown
From adage.com:
Fox.com is putting the finishing touches on a 3-D interactive game, "The X-Files' Pathogen Unknown" that will launch in time for the (US) February ratings sweeps. WildTangent's Web Driver technology is the foundation for the Web-based role-playing game, which will be featured on Fox.com, as an added attraction to its The X-Files site. The game, which may be downloaded and played at www.thexfiles.com, will be released in monthly episodes starting in February; a 10-minute preview is posted on the site.

Who Weekly and other Aussie magazines
In today's new issue of Who Weekly, there's a look at TV shows past and future, including all the news on shows to air in Australia in 2001. There's a half-page story on The X-Files with a pic of Gillian Anderson and Robert Patrick. There's also a review of Tea Leoni's The Family Man, including a pic of her with Nicolas Cage. It gets a B.

New Idea has 2 photos of Tea Leoni with daughter Madelaine and one of the photos includes David Duchovny. In NW's celebrity quiz, question no. 58 asked who was the actor who has replaced David Duchovny on The X Files and of course the answer is Robert Patrick. Finally in Woman's Day there is a paragraph on Tea Leoni:
Even Tea Leoni, who has one of the sexiest bods in Tinseltown, thought she wasn't up to the scrutiny of doing a steamy shower scene in The Family Man, in which she stars with Nicolas Cage. The scripts called for Tea to sing and sway as she showers (by herself), with lots of steam making the nudity very discreet. The pressure to appear perfect in Hollywood is so intense, she wanted a body double. By the way, Nicolas turned down the lead role and the $35 million pay packet six times before agreeing to sign up.
ThanX Lucy.

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
Empire magazine's website has a story on David Duchovny accepting a minor role in Kevin Smith's (director of Clerks and Dogma) upcoming movie titled Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. It seems to be a rumour though and Duchovny's back at work on The X-Files so won't have time to be in the movie. He hopes to work with Smith sometime in the future.

Overseas Mags
There are a few overseas mags with X-Files content available at local newsagencies at the moment but they are amazingly expensive. The December-January issue of Cinescape ($18.31) has Gillian Anderson and Robert Patrick on the cover as does issue 75 of Dreamwatch ($12.41). The Cinescape X-Files Annual 2000 is quite impressive but at $30.84 it's out of my price range, I'm afraid.

David Duchovny's Better Half
This week's TV Week has a half page spotlight on Tea Leoni with a photo of her and a couple of paragraphs on The X-Files, David Duchovny and their daughter Madelaine included. On the subject of Tea Leoni, there was a half page article in the Brisbane Sunday Mail last weekend on Tea Leoni along with a photo where she talks about her role in Family Man and Nicolas Cage and the movie as well as a short parargragph on David Duchovny. Also The Sunday Mail TV Scene liftout had a photo of David Duchovny and Tea Leoni along with a couple of paragraphs about DD calling Tea for help on a question he was stuck on when he appeared on the Celebrity Who Wants to be a Millionaire show in the US.
ThanX as always to my Xcellent X-news source, Lucy.

Defying Reality
From yesterday's Brisbane Courier Mail, with an accompanying pic of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson:
X-FILES FILM DEFIES REALITY

The franchise is out there. X-Files creator Chris Carter said at a convention of TV critics in California that he plans to make another X-Files movie in the next two years and that his plans are to keep the entire cast intact.

Even though David Duchovny is appearing only sporadically as Mulder on the TV show and Gillian Anderson's contract to play Scully on the Fox series ends at the end of next year, Carter said: "I can forsee trying to write a movie in the next year, year and a half, maybe two years. (And) our plans have always been to put David and Gillian in those movies."

Duchovny decided to step back from the series after suing its studio and Carter for selling re-runs of the show to Fox affiliates and the cable channel, FX, for below-market prices. The suit was settled last year.

Duchovny starred opposite Minnie Driver in the big-screen romantic comedy Return To Me.

I guess everyone has seen the channel 10 drama promos over the past few days, including a few clips of X-Files season 8. The countdown continues...
